Seeking satisfaction for all our desires.

Appetites get us swept away
Our cravings can overwhelm and consume us.

I’m building a velocity
I am gaining speed and momentum.

And I’m moving with a lot of speed
I am progressing rapidly.

But can’t harness the heart in me I fall asleep
Unable to control my emotions, I lose focus and energy.

Wake up where I started with the carnal things
Realizing I am back where I began, focused on worldly desires.

On top of me
Feeling overwhelmed and burdened.

So back and forth, forward then reverse
Moving in different directions, sometimes in regression.

Like a matador horns tore right through my shirt
Facing challenges head-on that break through my defenses.

That’s a metaphor on waging war against the curse
Using figurative language to describe battling against negative influences.

That will attack the source of my coronary works
Threatening the foundation of my emotional and spiritual well-being.

Pendulum
Symbolizing the back and forth movement without true progress.

Yeah you moving but you ain’t going no where
You may be busy, but you are not making any real advancement.

Stuck in a loop
Trapped in a pattern of repetitive behavior.

A cycle with no roots
Repeating actions without a strong foundation or purpose.

So afraid to be still
Fearful of pausing and reflecting.

And get sight of this bad fruit
Recognizing the negative consequences of our actions.

And my vision of truth
My perception of reality.

It is grey and without proof
Unclear and lacking evidence.

When I never stop to look
Because I do not take the time to observe and understand.

Cus’ I race in my own boots
Because I am constantly rushing forward in my own way.

Yeah my “busy” is a cover up for fear
Keeping busy to avoid facing underlying fears.

As long as I am moving ain’t nobody coming near
Keeping others at bay by staying constantly occupied.

I took 4 weeks off the road to stay at home
Taking a break from constant activity to be with family.

And found out when surrounded by my fam I felt alone
Realizing that even in the presence of loved ones, inner emptiness persists.

Battled with my purpose fought neglect like it’s a plague
Struggling with finding meaning and importance, resisting neglect.

Found out who I really was when I was left without a stage
Discovering true identity when stripped of external validations.

Wrestled with abase thoughts
Fought against humiliating and degrading ideas.

Drowned out by the bass stop
Overwhelmed by the overpowering sound of the music stopping.

You are so much louder when the silence
Your true self speaks more clearly in moments of quiet.

Makes the bass drop
When the music abruptly stops.

In the quiet so much courage is revealed
Strength and bravery become apparent in moments of stillness.

I will not discover what I’m searching for until
I will not find fulfillment until I stop and reflect.

I take out the rhythm of redundancy and heal
Breaking out of repetitive patterns to find healing.

Further still - you take me so much further when I’m still
Progress and growth come from being still and introspective.
