What Do You Want
Mr. Feeling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

I'll be your codependent you're my cute little enabler together
we'll get set to kill and cry about it later and I say lather rince repeat
this is my philosophy change my mind my brain is smoking can't live
without my remote control remote control
What Do You Want? it's too complicated
what do you mean? it's too hard to state it
what do you do? it's not what but whether
who do you love? I'm in love with leather
so call me kid compulsive cause I'm crawling on the concrete and
meet me at the laundromat that's where I do my laundry and I will
be so glad you came cause danger is my middle name there's
always something going on until it sort of grinds to a halt.
what do you want? I don't know what is it
what do you need? I just need a minute
what will it take? it will take forever
who do you love? I'm in love with lethargy
now sit right back and you'll hear a tale of all my twisted motives
of coffee jolt and classic coke and delicious blue cream sodas
blue cream soda brings a smile and that's what makes it all worthwhile
there's something more important somewhere but blue cream
soda sure is up there
what do you want? that's for me to know and you to find out
and that's where I'm going
what will it take? it will take forever
who do you love? I'm in love with leather
what do you want? what do you mean?

what will you do? it's not what but whether
who do you love? I'm in love with lethargy.

Overall Meaning

In the lyrics of Mr. Feeling's song "What Do You Want," the theme of codependency and enablement is prominently featured. The singer describes a dynamic where they rely on someone as their "cute little enabler" and together they engage in destructive behaviors, later regretting them. The repetition of the phrase "lather rinse repeat" suggests a cyclical pattern of behavior, hinting at a sense of entrapment and inability to break free from this harmful cycle. The mention of being unable to live without their "remote control" could symbolize a lack of autonomy and a feeling of being controlled by external forces.

The chorus poses a series of questions that delve into the complexity of desires and motivations. "What do you want?" is presented as a difficult question to answer, suggesting a sense of confusion or ambivalence in knowing one's own desires. The mention of being in love with leather and lethargy could be interpreted as symbolic representations of comfort and complacency, implying a reluctance to confront challenges or strive for change.

The reference to meeting at the laundromat, a mundane setting for everyday tasks, juxtaposed with the acknowledgment of danger as the singer's "middle name," creates a sense of contrast between routine and risk. The lyrics hint at a sense of restlessness and a constant need for stimulation, with the acknowledgement that eventually, everything comes to a halt. The repeated questions about desires and actions reflect a sense of uncertainty and complexity in navigating one's own motivations and relationships.

The final verses introduce a narrative of the singer's motives and preferences, mentioning specific beverages like coffee, classic coke, and blue cream soda. The emphasis on the simple pleasure of blue cream soda bringing a smile suggests a desire for comfort and joy in small pleasures amidst the confusion and chaos described earlier. The closing lines reiterate the elusive nature of desires and love, leaving the listener with a sense of intrigue and introspection about the complexity of human emotions and motivations portrayed in the song. The song captures a sense of inner conflict, unfulfilled desires, and a yearning for understanding in the midst of chaos and uncertainty.

This song is so underrated. My god. This song is so much better than anything Calvin Harris has ever done.

@redfactionELITE

Lol Calvin Harris is shithouse

@afaydilek

I have no idea why would anyone compare this song with Calvin Harris's tracks but half of Calvin's songs are much better than this one. He is an artist that can produce electro, pop, big room, house and even rap and mix them delicately in one album. Half of his songs are much better than all the songs in this channel combined.
