Some would call him a Sacramento hip hop legend… Read Full Bio ↴Who is Mr. P Chill?
Some would call him a Sacramento hip hop legend. Others would call him a revolutionary. Some would call him an emcee on a mission. And yet others would call him the essence of hip hop itself. All of those descriptions are true. This Sacramento hip hop vet lays his entire lifetime of experiences on every track, every drop of blood and sweat and every tear shed is a part of what makes his music so real. P Chill is not some emcee hiding behind a partition of lies, but rather a person as real as you. Chill writes of the hardships of the working poor, the pain of heartbreak, the anger of the youth and tries to find solutions to a world gone wrong.
P Chill released his first recordings in 1992 while a part of a group. Over the next 20 years Chill has continued to grow not only as an emcee, but as a natural born leader. Chill’s philosophy is that he has been given an incredible opportunity to reach the masses with his voice, so he must use his voice for something constructive, not just talk about senseless, random, materialistic things. Having spent the past 8 years performing up and down the west coast of the United States, selling countless copies of his 6 albums hand to hand as well as over the internet, Chill has decided that the time has come to expand even further. The message of peace and equality that P Chill spreads is universal and needs to be heard. Chill had spent much of 2011 on the road promoting his two releases that year; ONCE AGAIN and ALL SERIOUSNESS ASIDE all over the United States and has already gotten 2012 off to a good start on the road as well.
There is a wind of change blowing in hip hop and P Chill will have that wind at his back as he moves forward into 2012!
Social Distancing
Mr. P Chill Lyrics

The house was getting small
With just me in it
I went for a drive
East down eighty
Windows cracked
In the country
Foreign yet familiar
Blues emanated from the speakers
Upbeat but down
I changed channels
I wasn't ready to sing along
The sun kept sinking
Behind the trees
Until it was fully beneath
The rural landscape
I stopped to get gas
And I turned around
I wanted to pollute
The clean country air
With dirty words
But I had nothing to say
Recently learned
Surf steeped in cow punk
And doo wop
Bled in my ears
Smooth
I had the urge to throw
Glass out the window
To hear it shatter
On the asphalt
The phone doesn't ring
The lights are on
But no one's home
In the city when I return
All the headlights
Look the same
Through the raindrops
On my windshield
Cars are outside
The 24 hour porn store
I guess it's an essential business
Red means stop
And greens mean go
But the only lights I hit
Are yellow
The house is empty
Except for two cats
And a single woman's shoe
It was weird
The lyrics of Mr. P Chill's "Social Distancing" portray a dreamlike sequence where the singer finds themselves in a shrinking house alone, setting off for a solitary drive towards the countryside. The journey is described with vivid imagery, such as the windows cracked open, and the conflicting emotions of the music playing in the car - blues that are both uplifting and somber. The setting shifts from the bustling city to a serene rural landscape, creating a sense of both isolation and familiarity for the singer.
As the drive continues, the sun sets behind the trees, marking a transition from day to night and symbolizing a deepening sense of introspection and contemplation for the singer. The act of stopping to get gas and the urge to disrupt the peaceful country surroundings with "dirty words" and shattered glass hint at a internal turmoil or restlessness within the singer. The lyrics suggest a disconnect between the singer's inner thoughts and external environment, highlighting a sense of disorientation and unease.
The song lyrics then shift to incorporate references to varied music genres like surf, cow punk, and doo wop, indicating a diverse range of influences and experiences that have colored the singer's perceptions. The imagery of throwing glass out the window and the stagnant city upon return evoke a sense of frustration and stagnation, suggesting a desire to break free from monotony and routine. The mention of the empty house with only two cats and a lone shoe adds to the surreal and disjointed atmosphere of the dream sequence.
In the final verses, the lyrics depict a scene of driving through the rain, with the singer observing the city lights and the routine of traffic signals. The repeated imagery of yellow lights and the absence of meaningful human interaction - such as the phone not ringing - further emphasize the theme of isolation and disconnection. The closing lines leave the listener with a sense of unease and mystery, as the empty house and the incongruous presence of cars outside a porn store create a discordant and surreal conclusion to the dream narrative presented in the song.
