Everything Is Everything
Ms. Lauryn Hill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be
After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually

Everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be
After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually

I wrote these words for everyone who struggles in their youth
Who won't accept deception, instead of what is truth
It seems we lose the game
Before we even start to play
Who made these rules? (Who made these rules?)
We're so confused (We're so confused)
Easily led astray
Let me tell ya that

Everything is everything
Everything is everything
After winter, must come spring
Everything is everything

I philosophy
Possibly speak tongues
Beat drum, Abyssinian, street Baptist
Rap this in fine linen, from the beginning
My practice extending across the atlas
I begat this
Flipping in the ghetto on a dirty mattress
You can't match this rapper slash actress
More powerful than two Cleopatras
Bomb graffiti on the tomb of Nefertiti
MCs ain't ready to take it to the Serengeti
My rhymes is heavy like the mind of sister Betty (Betty Shabazz)
L-Boogie spars with stars and constellations
Then came down for a little conversation
Adjacent to the king, fear no human being
Roll with cherubims to Nassau Coliseum
Now hear this mixture, where Hip Hop meets scripture
Develop a negative into a positive picture

Now everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be
After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually

Sometimes it seems
We'll touch that dream
But things come slow or not at all
And the ones on top, won't make it stop
So convinced that they might fall
Let's love ourselves and we can't fail
To make a better situation
Tomorrow, our seeds will grow
All we need is dedication
Let me tell ya that

Everything is everything
Everything is everything
After winter, must come spring
Everything is everything

Everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be

After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually

She uses seasons as a metaphor for the cyclical nature of life and insists that everything happens for a reason, and what is meant to be in life will happen. She highlights how society often leads youth astray and confuses them, leaving them feeling lost and hopeless. In her philosophy, she speaks about being guided by her faith and her willingness to extend her practice across the world to spread a message of hope and positivity. She also talks about how love and dedication can change the world and bring about a better tomorrow.

@Tlhakxza

Somebody once said “In music you get an album with a few good tracks in it, and then, you get a good album entirely”... this is without doubt A DAMN GOOD ALBUM.

Seriously,You’re not a fully fledged human being if this here joint doesn’t touch your conscience and spark a change in you.
I’m a 42yr old man,I’ve had this album for 22 years almost(since October 2000)and just today,(26/05/2022) after almost 5 years of not listening to it ,Something prompted me to play it,needless to mention just how profound has been, still is and forever will.

This song, the intro along with Doo Wop helped put a deeper perspective into my life and views in general,it just made me realize just how grown I’ve become as a man and father.

I appreciate it more than ever before now... THANK YOU VERY MUCH for this great work Ms LAURYN HILL I still love you and your music even today.
