Black Holes and Revelations (2006) incorporated electronic and pop elements, displayed in singles such as "Supermassive Black Hole", and brought Muse wider international success. The Resistance (2009) and The 2nd Law (2012) explored themes of government oppression and civil uprising and cemented Muse as one of the world's major stadium acts. Rolling Stone stated the band possessed "stadium-crushing songs". Topping the US Billboard 200, their seventh album, Drones (2015), was a concept album about drone warfare and returned to a harder rock sound. Their eighth album, Simulation Theory (2018), prominently featured synthesisers and was influenced by science fiction and the simulation hypothesis. Their ninth album, Will of the People (2022), which combined many genres and themes from their previous albums, was released in August 2022.
Muse have won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, five MTV Europe Music Awards and eight NME Awards. In 2012 they received the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. As of June 2016, they have sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

I, I can't get these memories out of my mind

And I, I tried so hard to let you go
But some kind of madness is swallowing me whole

I have finally seen the light
And I have finally realized
What you mean
Ooh, oh-oh, oh-oh
And now, I need to know, is this real love
Or is it just madness keeping us afloat?
(M-m-m-m-m-m-m-m, mad, mad, mad) mm

And when I look back at all the crazy fights we had
It's like some kind of madness was taking control

The lyrics to "Madness" by Muse describe the struggle of trying to let go of a past love while feeling consumed by a sense of madness that has taken over. The opening lines of the song set the tone with the repeated phrase "mad, mad, mad," creating a sense of chaos and confusion. The singer admits that they can't get their memories of their past lover out of their mind and that some kind of madness has started to evolve as a result. Despite their efforts to move on, they are being swallowed whole by this madness.
As the song progresses, the singer questions whether their tumultuous relationship is fueled by real love or just the madness that has taken over. They reflect on the crazy fights they've had, suggesting that the madness has been taking control of their relationship from the beginning. The chorus repeats variations of "finally seen the light" and "finally realized," suggesting that the singer has come to some kind of revelation about their feelings for their past lover. They ultimately admit that they need their love to rescue them from this madness, even if it's just in a dream.
Overall, "Madness" is a powerful song about the overwhelming emotions that can come with love and heartbreak. The repeated phrases of "mad, mad, mad" and "finally seen the light" create a sense of desperation and confusion that perfectly captures the themes of the song.

My father has Alzheimer’s and doesn’t remember much of anything but he remembers the lyrics of this song and sings them every time it’s played. I always tear up when I hear the finale of the song. Love you dad
