Muse - Unintended Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You could be my unintended
Choice to live my life extended
You could be the one I'll always love
You could be the one who listens
to my deepest inquisitions
You could be the one I'll always love
I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken
Pieces of the life I had before

First there was the one who challenged
All my dreams and all my balance
She could never be as good as you
You could be my unintended
Choice to live my life extended

You should* be the one I'll always love

I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken
Pieces of the life I had before
I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken

Pieces of the life I had before
Before you

Overall Meaning

"Unintended" is a moving ballad that explores the idea of unexpected love. The singer of the song is addressing someone who could be his unintended choice to live his life extended. He admits that this person could be the one he'll always love and the only one who listens to his deepest thoughts and questions. The song is a plea to the person to come into his life and be there for him.

The song is a reflection on past relationships and how the person being addressed is someone the singer would have never thought he would fall for. The line "First there was the one who challenged all my dreams and all my balance, she could never be as good as you" highlights the fact that the person the singer is addressing is far superior to his previous partner. The lyrics are also incredibly vulnerable, with the singer confessing that he is currently mending broken pieces of the life he had before, but he'll be there as soon as he can.

Overall, "Unintended" is a song about falling in love unexpectedly and having a deep connection with someone. It's a reflective piece with a hopeful tone, and the lyrics are meant to tug at the heartstrings of listeners.

This song (along with Falling Down) was the first one that led me to rediscover something I'd lost: spirit, heart, dedication and devotion to music.
Then, Falling Down was the first song that really managed to open my eyes. I got enlightened.
It's a bitter relief to figure out, in such a short time, what was the cause of my pain after 12 years down the drain.
I cried like I never did before, with joy and suffering.
Now I hope nothing can stop me, not even myself.
Thank you Muse and thank you Music.

Greetings from a long-time italian fan ❤️

(funny thing: I had already listened to these songs a hundred thousand times before, but we all know that it's never the same and for some reason, just out of the blue, sometimes a song can unlock a memory that seemed buried and dormant)
