Bury Me in Black
My Chemical Romance Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I lied, you've worn out all your dancing shoes this time
Just give us war, worn lipstick by the door if I inflame
These eyes have had too much to drink again tonight
Black skies, we'll douse ourselves in high explosive light
Just give us war, I've been calling you all week
Pick up the phone
Pick up the phone fucker
I want to see what you're insides look like
I bet you're not fuckin pretty on the inside
I want to see what you're insides look like
I want to see em
Well you don't say
And well I can explain what happened to my face
Late last night
I'm sleepin next to pools in vacant alleyways
And what I'm goin through, shot lipgloss through my veins
And when I can't complain
With the falling rain
See'mon
I want to save your heart
I want to see what your insides may be
The lyrics to My Chemical Romance's Bury Me in Black are dark and foreboding, painting a picture of self-destructive behavior and a longing for violence. The opening lines, "I said, we'll drown ourselves in misery tonight, I lied, you've worn out all your dancing shoes this time," suggest a willingness to indulge in destructive behavior and a sense of hopelessness. The chorus, "Just give us war, worn lipstick by the door if I inflame, these eyes have had too much to drink again tonight, black skies, we'll douse ourselves in high explosive light," further emphasizes this theme, with a desire for conflict and an almost nihilistic attitude towards life.
The second verse takes a more violent turn, with the lines "Pick up the phone, pick up the phone fucker, I want to see what your insides look like, I bet you're not fuckin pretty on the inside, I want to see what your insides look like, I want to see em." These lyrics hint at a desire to harm oneself or others, to revel in violence and destruction. The final lines, "I want to save your heart, I want to see what your insides may be," suggest a twisted desire to understand and control others through violence.
Overall, the lyrics to Bury Me in Black paint a dark picture of self-destructive behavior and a longing for violence, with a nihilistic attitude towards life and a desire for conflict and destruction.
