Cemetary Drive
My Chemical Romance Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This night
Walk the dead
In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates
In the dress your husband hates
Lay down
Mark the grave
Where the searchlights find us drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom floor

I miss you
I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard

Back home off the run
Singing songs that make you slit your wrists
It isn't that much fun
Staring down a loaded gun
So I won't stop dying
Won't stop lying
If you want I'll keep on crying
Did you get what you deserve?
Is this what you always want me for?

I miss you
I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard

Way Down, way down, way down, way down
Way down, way down, way down, way down

I miss you
I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard

I miss you
I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard, made it so hard

Way down, way down, way down, way down
Way down, way down, way down, way down, way down

Overall Meaning

The first two lines of the song Cemetery Drive by My Chemical Romance set the eerie tone of the song, where the dead seem to walk in solitary style. The song is about a couple who is in love, but their love is cut short by death. The singer sings about going to the cemetery gates, dressed in the outfit that her husband hates, in order to crash the gate and be with her lover. He then talks about marking the grave, where they find themselves drinking by the mausoleum door while a searchlight illuminates them. The next line, "And they found you on the bathroom floor," suggests that she may have died from drug overdose or suicide.

The chorus of the song is about how much he misses her and the "collision of [their] kiss that made it so hard." The collision of their kiss refers to how intense their love was, but also how painful it is to be without her. The last two lines of the chorus suggest that she died because of something that he did wrong, and he's questioning whether he deserves to be punished for it.

The second verse of the song is about the singer being back home and singing songs that make you want to slit your wrists. He's staring down a loaded gun and contemplating suicide, but he won't stop dying, lying, or crying. The last two lines of the verse refer back to the chorus and the idea that he may have caused her death and is paying the price for it.

Overall, Cemetery Drive is a powerful song about love, loss, and the pain of losing someone you deeply care about.
