The band eclipsed their previous success with their 2006 concept album, The Black Parade, which gained generally favorable reviews among music critics. Their fourth studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, was released on November 22, 2010, to positive reviews. The band's final release in their original run were a series of singles, released over the course of five months, collected on the compilation Conventional Weapons. The band announced its break-up on March 22, 2013, one month after the final release in the Conventional Weapons series. On March 25, 2014, the band released May Death Never Stop You: The Greatest Hits (2001–2013), a greatest hits album containing material spanning their entire career, as well as some previously unreleased material.
On Halloween of 2019, the band announced a comeback show in Los Angeles, California, and fans speculated that there was more to it than just a show. On November 5, three more shows were confirmed in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. On January 29, 2020, eighteen additional dates were announced in North America.
On May 12, 2022, the band released The Foundations Of Decay, solidifying their return as a band.

I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene
Can we settle up the score?
If you were here,
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
(You're beautiful)
Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day
Like the firing squad or the mess you made
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street
In the best damn dress I own?
If you were here,
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday
You're so far away
So c'mon show me how
'Cause I mean this more than words can ever say
We are, made from the sharpest things you'd say
We are young and we don't care
Your dreams and your hopeless hair
We never wanted it to be this way
For all our lives
Do you care at all?
If you were here,
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday
You're so far away
So c'mon show me how
'Cause I mean this more than words can ever say
(What'd you call me?)
(Well, there's no way I'm kissing that guy)
The lyrics of "Give 'Em Hell, Kid" by My Chemical Romance express feelings of nostalgia and longing for a lost love. The singer reminisces about their past together and wishes their partner was still with them, expressing their love and admiration for them. The verses paint an allusion to drugs and the murky underbelly of urban life, referencing a train out of New Orleans and being shot full of ephedrine. The chorus expresses the singer's love and yearning for their former partner, with the lines "If you were here, I'd never have a fear / But I miss you more than I did yesterday" encapsulating the main emotion of the song.
In the bridge, the singer reflects on their identity and the way they have been shaped by their experiences. The lines "We are made from the sharpest things you’d say / We are young and we don’t care / Your dreams and your hopeless hair / We never wanted it to be this way" hint at a rebellious spirit and a sense of not fitting in with society's expectations. The song ends with a playful dialogue between two people, adding a touch of humor to the otherwise emotional tone of the lyrics.
