Goodnite
My Chemical Romance Lyrics

It's time for me, Dr. D, to start running and say goodbye, for a little while
And I know you're gonna miss me, so I'll leave you with this
You know that big ball of radiation we call the sun
Well it'll burst you into flames if you stay in one place too long
That is if the static don't get you first
So remember, even if you're dusted, you may be gone,
But out here in the desert, your shadow lives on without you
The lyrics to My Chemical Romance's song "Goodnite" are spoken by a character named Dr. D, who is bidding farewell to a group of individuals who have just finished partying together. Dr. D warns them about the dangers of staying in one place for too long, as the sun's radiation can cause flames and the static of the desert can be harmful as well. Dr. D then reminds them that even if they are gone, their shadow will live on without them. The song's message seems to be about impermanence and mortality, and how even in death, one's influence and legacy can continue to exist.
The imagery of the desert and radiation create a sense of desolate otherworldliness, with Dr. D's voice acting as a guide through this eerie landscape. The song's haunting melodies and spoken word format allow the listener to fully immerse themselves in this surreal atmosphere. The use of the word "goodnite" instead of "goodbye" adds to the feeling of finality and foreboding.
