Goodnite Dr. Death
My Chemical Romance Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's time for me, Dr. D, to start running and say goodbye, for a little while
And I know you're gonna miss me, so I'll leave you with this
You know that big ball of radiation we call the sun
Well it'll burst you into flames if you stay in one place too long
That is if the static don't get you first
So remember, even if you're dusted, you may be gone,
But out here in the desert, your shadow lives on without you
The song "Goodnite Dr. Death" by My Chemical Romance is an eerie and thought-provoking tune that is open to interpretation. The lyrics speak of the end of a party, the departure of the host, Dr. D, and the ominous warning of the dangers of staying in one place for too long, both from the sun and from static. Dr. D imparts a cryptic message to his audience, stating that even if they are no longer present, their shadow remains, hinting at the idea that one's legacy can endure beyond death.
The song's title, "Goodnite Dr. Death," refers to Dr. Death, also known as Jack Kevorkian, an American pathologist who became notorious for his advocacy of doctor-assisted suicide. The song's lyrics may be interpreted as a commentary on death and the fleeting nature of life. The line "So remember, even if you're dusted, you may be gone" implies that one's physical body may be gone, but their impact on the world remains.
