Girl At The Bus Stop
My Drug Hell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Girl at the bus stop, talking French
To her girlfriend on the bench
I had my head in a book
I lost my place when I took a look

Girl at the bus stop, I wished for once
That the bus would never come
She sat downstairs, I sat behind
I couldn't get her off my mind

Girl at the bus stop, I could not believe
When she got off same stop as me
I'd not forgive myself if I
Let this chance just pass

By, I thought I would die
My, my butterflies

Girl at the bus stop, I asked if she
Would maybe like to come out with me
I noticed it had begun to snow
Her smile was sweet when she said

No, no, oh, no
No, oh, oh

Girl at the bus stop, I've thought of you
I wondered if you wondered too

And if perhaps you're hearing this
I think that it would, be so nice if...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of My Drug Hell's song "Girl at the Bus Stop" tell a story of a man who is completely captivated by a girl he sees at the bus stop. He describes her talking to her girlfriend in French on a bench while he was reading a book. He lost his place when he took a look at her. He hoped the bus would never come so that he could stay and watch her. When the bus eventually arrives, she sat downstairs and he sat behind. He couldn't get her off his mind even after he got off at the same stop as her. He gathered the courage to ask her out, but she turned him down.

The lyrics portray the feeling of love at first sight, the struggle to gather the courage to approach someone you're interested in, the fear of missing out on the chance of a possible love affair, and the disappointment of rejection. The song also highlights the fear and anxiety that comes with rejections.

Overall, "Girl at the Bus Stop" is a simple yet interesting song that captures a relatable moment in life where we see someone that we are interested in, but we may not always act on it.

I had this on a mixed casette tape I had made off the radio like we did back then, and this one time I was out driving and someone overheard the song and jumped out of their skin at the chance to tell me that they loved it too! Still have not come across anyone that knows of it since. Great tune.

James Coyne

Great song. What's a tape-haha ? , showing your age I'm afraid! I don't know how but I have the album on LP and this on 7. Maybe it was NME Single Of The Week back in the day? I still have some tapes I made from the Evening Session/John Peel. I threw most of my cassettes away but couldn't part with all of them. Still have dodgy recordings of Evening Sessions 'Tunes Of The Year'. A whole host of long forgotten bands!

Absolutely love this song. I have only heard it on the radio about twice on Triple J years ago. Thank you for posting it.

Yes mate. Saw this on the Beat on late night London TV, and then went out and bought it on 7" the week it came out. Still have my copy (I think, must go check now!)
