The band is entirely run by the members themselves. They created their own website (graphics, designs and everything else), designed every article of merchandize, promoted their hearts out (the band has been featured on www.emotionalpunk.com, www.absolutepunk.net, www.frequencyreviews.com, received a contract to be on the Drive-Thru Records/ Purevolume unsigned bands compilation and a feature article in the Daytona Beach News-Journal- to name a few), and is now starting to draw in larger crowds in their central Florida venues (House of Blues, The Social, Backbooth) one show at a time. Their live show has been said to be an excellent display of raw emotion, bursting with enthusiasm.
The band recorded a demo in the fall of 2004, which featured six songs; they have been demoing songs ever since and now have well over 25 songs recorded under their belt. Their plays on purevolume have hit
the 85,000 mark – an incredible feat for a band that has not been signed to any record label, nor received any professional promotion of any sort. The band plans to keep the demos coming, recording on
average six a month. They have also begun to record other local acts in their makeshift "bedroom studio" just to stay sharp.
My Getaway's rock machine has just gotten started. They plan to contine the barrage of demos and continue to wreak havoc on the Florida countryside, playing one show at a time.
Jessie's Song
My Getaway Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Put your hands in my sweater, it's cold outside, it's cold outside. baby, put your hands in my sweater, it's cold outside, it's cold outside.
So strike a match, I'll light your fire. are you warm enough? I need to know. and if you get out of control, I'll be the first one there to put you out.
Meet me outside at 8:55, we'll make it a date so don't be late. I'll rub your arms to keep you warm. it's the longest night of the year, it's the coldest night of the year and I'll keep you warm.
So strike a match, I'll light your fire. are you warm enough? I need to know. and if you get out of control, I'll be the first one there to put you out
The song is a romantic and affectionate piece about a couple, possibly new, spending time together during the coldest night of the year. The singer, presumably male, addresses the girl named Jessie directly, telling her not to hide or close her eyes, but rather blushing and enjoying the moment. He also mentions how he loves it when she leans in towards him and the way she kisses him. He then suggests she puts her hands in his sweater to warm up while they spend time together outside.
The chorus with the repetition of "put your hands in my sweater, it's cold outside" further emphasizes the romantic and affectionate tone of the song, and how the couple is finding warmth and comfort in each other's presence. The singer also reassures Jessie that he is there for her if she gets out of control, using the metaphor of putting out a fire. The song ends with the singer asking Jessie to meet him outside at 8:55, promising to keep her warm on the longest and coldest night of the year.
