Universe
Myth and Company Lyrics

Praise those lucky stars you’re living
Third stone off the sun
Just caught up in the Universe
I hold my breath
Lost your count but still you’re living
You forced what forced you back and
Blame it on some sordid curse
Because
If I told you so
I don’t think you’d understand
How the Universe
Has got me by the throat
Back and forth
Acting like there’s no decisions
Claim a better glimpse of
The demons ‘neath the pouring sands
Hey now, hey now
Where you think they’ll run with this
Mirrored on a marking stone
Reflected ‘cross the Universe
You said that you did it for the greater cause
Because
If I told you so
I don’t think you’d understand
How the Universe
Has got me by the throat
You can hold my hand
Tie it to a simple thread
But this hole I’m in
So the story goes
Reload, return, recast, resize
And all the years have turned to miles
To get a glimpse that’s eye to eye
A better version of myself
One by one as we reach the sun
Calling down the chosen one
Here I am, I’m coming home
If I told you so
I don’t think you’d understand
How the Universe
Has got me by the throat
You can hold my hand
Tie it to a simple thread
But this hole I’m in
So the story goes
If I told you so
I don’t think you’d understand
How the Universe
Has got me by the throat
I could’ve told you so
I should’ve told you so
And if I told you so
So the story goes
The lyrics to "Universe" by Myth and Company explore the idea of being caught up in the vastness and unpredictability of the universe. The song begins with the notion of being grateful for being alive and acknowledges the immense scale of the universe ("Third stone off the sun"). The singer feels a sense of breathlessness and uncertainty, having lost track of their experiences but still persevering. They attribute their struggles to a mysterious curse, perhaps suggesting that they believe their hardships are beyond their control.
The chorus expresses the frustration of trying to explain the overwhelming grip the universe has on their life, acknowledging that others might not understand the depth of their experience. The singer reflects on the constant back and forth, feeling as though they have no control over the decisions they make. They question where these choices will lead them and the impact they will have on their journey.
The second verse introduces the idea of reflection, both on a literal mirror and on the larger scale of the universe. The singer questions where their actions will ultimately take them and wonders if they are becoming a better version of themselves through their experiences. The bridge suggests a cyclical nature of life, with the passing of years turning into miles. The singer hopes to reach a point of understanding, to be eye to eye with their true self.
In the final chorus, the singer reiterates their struggle to communicate the overwhelming power of the universe in their life, recognizing that others may not comprehend the extent of their journey. They convey a sense of being trapped in a hole, hinting at the complexity of their story. The last line reinforces the theme that if they had spoken up about their experiences, things might have been different.
Overall, "Universe" delves into the feelings of insignificance, uncertainty, and the struggle to convey the impact of cosmic forces on one's life.
