Dirty dog (uh)
I'm a dirty dog (uh)
I'm a dirty dog
I'm a, I'm a dirty dog
Dirty dog
I'm a dirty dog
Dirty dog
I'm an outlaw (I'm an outlaw)
Quick on the draw (quick on the draw)
Somethin' you've never seen before (you've never seen)
And I dare a motherfucker to come in my face
I got somethin' chrome (I got somethin' chrome)
And I got it from home (and I got it from home)
And it ain't a microphone (it ain't a mic)
And I dare a motherfucker to come in my face

It's so real (real)
How I feel (feel)
'Cause this society
That makes a nigga want to kill
I'm just straight ill
Ridin' my motorcycle down the streets
While politicians is soundin' like strippers to me
They sayin' but I don't wanna hear it

Ooh, baby, you want me?
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free

It's a raw night (it's a raw night)
Who wants to bar fight? (Who wants to bar fight?)
Well, come on alright (well, come on)
And I dare a motherfucker to come in my face
Baseball bats (baseball bats)
I got somethin' for that (I got somethin' for that)
It goes bla-ka-ka-kat (you know what that is)
So I dare a motherfucker to come in my face

It's so real (real)
How I feel (feel)
'Cause this society
That makes a nigga want to kill (kill)
I'm just straight ill
Ridin' my motorcycle down the streets
While the government is soundin' like strippers to me
They keep sayin' but I don't wanna hear it

Ooh, baby, you want me?
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Well, you can get this lap dance (Lee Harvey) here for free

When you think of Harvey, think of a Harley
Blue denim, spiked wrists and 'Crombie
Slap screws and tattoos that's all me
Two blondes, both arms, feelin' like Fonzie
You can find me drunk, whippin' it might crash
Or find me chillin' with crackers who like Thrash
Find me in court smokin' that nice grass
Burnin' the flag, all in the name of white trash
It's Harvey, baby, Christ on the arm, I'm gnarly, baby
Fuck with me? Not hardly, baby
And you know the flow ungodly, baby
So let's party, baby
Chicks nickname me Pilot, they get high off my dick
I take 'em to my home, they call it the cockpit
Time for take-off, their panties they drop quick
Now that's first-class fuckin', ain't that some fly shit?

Ooh, baby, you want me?
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Ooh, baby, you want me?
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free
Well, you can get this lap dance here for free

Well, you can get this lap dance
They keep sayin' (here for free), but I don't wanna hear it

Overall Meaning

In the song "Lapdance" by N.E.R.D, the lyrics delve into themes of rebellion, aggression, and societal frustration. The repeated phrase "Dirty dog" emphasizes a sense of defiance and uniqueness, declaring the singer as unconventional and untamed. The following lines asserting being an outlaw and daring anyone to challenge them portray a sense of intimidation and power, with references to possessing a weapon ("chrome") as a symbol of strength and readiness to defend oneself. This defiance is further highlighted through the blunt rejection of societal norms and expectations, expressed through the metaphorical comparison of politicians to strippers, suggesting a lack of authenticity and sincerity in authority figures.

The lyrics also touch on the emotional turmoil caused by societal pressures and injustices, with the singer feeling the weight of a society that pushes them towards violence and aggression. The line "I'm just straight ill" conveys a sense of being overwhelmed by the harsh realities of the world, while riding a motorcycle symbolizes a rebellious and free-spirited attitude in the face of adversity. The references to a desire to kill and the dissatisfaction with political systems echo a sense of disillusionment and anger towards the status quo, highlighting the singer's frustration and alienation from the world around them.

The chorus, with its provocative invitation for a lap dance and the repeated questioning of "baby, you want me?", adds a layer of irony and subversion to the song. The juxtaposition of sexualized imagery with themes of rebellion and societal critique creates a jarring effect, challenging conventional expectations of masculinity and power dynamics. This juxtaposition can be seen as a commentary on commodification, desire, and the performative nature of relationships, as well as a critique of how power dynamics play out in various social contexts.

In the final verse, references to Lee Harvey, Harley motorcycles, and provocative imagery of rebellion and indulgence further emphasize the theme of nonconformity and the celebration of a rebellious, unapologetic spirit. The singer's self-assuredness and defiance are reinforced through vivid descriptions of indulgence, recklessness, and disregard for societal norms. Overall, the song "Lapdance" by N.E.R.D serves as a gritty, provocative commentary on power, rebellion, and societal disillusionment, challenging listeners to question and reexamine the complexities of authority, desire, and identity in a tumultuous world.

N.E.R.D. was so influential. They brought on a whole wave of "regular kids" with that "college kid" swagg into the game. They brought the fun back into hip hop at a time when violence and gimmicks were the only thing popping. They brought that regular guy party vibe into the game. Not to mention the fantastic production they brought into the game with it ๐Ÿ”ฅ
