Negativland
NEU! Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Did you ever know why I hate you ?
And this since forever.
Quite expected that you'd not know why.
Since you are such an ignorant.

You like all the others,
the smarter you become and the sillier you sink.
Like animal reacts.

So sadening to watch you go.
Devoid of culture.

Get outta here!

Prideless you live.
Believing yourself an accomplished being.

Frustration and sorrow,
your deeds beckon,

have become a towering inferno.
That's why I feel so neurasthenic.

Overall Meaning

In Neu!'s song Negativland, the lyrics are a scathing indictment of a person who seems to be ignorant, prideful, and devoid of culture. The song's lyrics contain a tone of frustration and sadness, as if the person singing is fed up with being around this individual. The song's lyrics suggest that this person is so obnoxious that even animals would react negatively to their presence. The singer goes so far as to say that they feel neurasthenic because of this person's deeds.

The lyrics themselves are a commentary on society and how people who are ignorant and self-righteous can be a negative influence on those around them. They also serve as a warning to those who think too highly of themselves that their actions can have disastrous consequences.

Overall, Neu!'s Negativland is a powerful and thought-provoking song that encourages listeners to think critically about their own behaviors and how they affect those around them.

@Dylan Ladner Oka then lets have a quick look at the times:
Me: ... 1975
Carn Marth: Pitty they did nothing to stop you back than, then we would not have to put up with you NOW.
(conclusion: He is having a problem with me NOW)
Me: What is your problem with me (NOW)?
(Phrased as: "..I earned this comment by doing … what exactly?)
You: By doing something 45 years ago.

You can mean only that, as the ONLY information you have about me is that I may have collected noise complaints 45 years in the past.(Even noise complaints is a stretch, but a reasonable assumption given my first post.)

So you are saying:"Carn Marth is having a problem with you NOW, because you may have gathered noise complaints 45 years ago."

Does this make any sense in your world?
If yes: What's your profession?
Just asking.

Absolutely fucking insane that this music is over 50 years old. Krautrock comes from another universe entirely where time doesn't even exist.

This particular track anticipated punk, post-punk, industrial, darkwave and much more. Great respect.

and it was released in '72. It seems unreal.

Agree on the post-punk, industrial, darkwave part... Punk was coming a little earlier. But Massive Respect! is part of history, no doubt!
