Since it's release in early January, NLE Choppa's "Shotta Flow" video has amassed more than 12 million views in nearly six weeks. The visual for his breakout record shows a precocious youth who is just as adept at dancing as he is at swinging choppas.
His flows and stylistic choices recall his friend and fellow hometown rapper BlocBoy JB. Yet Choppa is unique. His intensity, voice and dark sense of humor set him apart from the fray. His follow-up record, "Shotta Flow 2," is approaching 2 million views in under a week.
Always business-savvy, Choppa turned down a $3 million dollar deal and opted for a partnership with UnitedMasters, a company that distributes his music while allowing him to keep his masters. With an EP coming in the spring and more videos on the way, the young artist's name is everywhere, even catching the attention of legendary rap mogul Birdman, who he's been spotted sharing studio time with.

(DMac on the fuckin' track)
Oh, oh, NLE the Top Shotta
I got the bombs like Al-Qaeda
Ayy, whoa
Ayy, ayy, ayy
Sometimes I gamble with my heart, I'm takin' chances, where my love at?
Suburban who? 'Cause I be posted with the Rugrats
Came up off of robbin', but my OG really sold crack
Billion views up, but I'll still go and kill somethin'
Take one of my dawgs and I'ma make sure all y'all feel one
Unexpected shootout, you ain't knowin' when that drill come
Come and shoot up who house? We gon' post up 'til you niggas come
And I ain't goin' in 'til the mornin'
I see a cop, I'm on it
We leave his mama mournin'
He send a threat, ignore it
The internet for corporate
We leave his body cold spread and then his breath aborted
Wanna go far, but I know bullshit be stoppin' you
Tell 'em keep goin' hard 'cause I know that's just what I would do
People who pushin' through they battles, I swear I'm proud of you
People who say they gon' be there for you ain't on side of you
Granny and mama happy her son havin' a baby
Movin' like a don, so them niggas steady hate me
Mama say I'm crazy 'cause I'm posted with the Drac', man
Tuck it in my pants, I can't let a nigga take me
Life gettin' better, but sometimes it's gettin' hard
People want beneficials, but they ain't play a part
Turn your back on me, we getting ready for war
Backseat with this Drac', we lettin' fire off in this car
Gambles and crosses and losses, we take those
If you ain't man enough, then my killers known to make those
Pesos, we get even, that's if you owe, bro
Game up in a chokehold, they tellin' me to let go
Lately, I been havin' stress all day
Too many problems we face
Gotta sit down and pray
Uh, uh, I swear to that it's gon' be okay
Sometimes I gamble with my heart, I'm takin' chances, where my love at?
Don't know where to start, it got me askin', "where the drugs at?"
We gon' post up 'til you niggas come
Yeah
NLE the Top Shotta, got the bombs like Al-Qaeda
We'll post up 'til you niggas come
The lyrics to NLE Choppa's song "Gamble With My Heart" reveal a complex mixture of emotions and experiences. The chorus focuses on the theme of taking risks in matters of the heart, admitting to the uncertainty that comes with those risks. The singer is not sure where to start or where to find love, but he is willing to take chances nonetheless. The use of drug references suggests that the singer might be searching for love in all the wrong places, perhaps through substance abuse.
The verses of the song offer glimpses into the singer's life and background. The second line establishes the singer's tough-guy persona, comparing himself to a terrorist group known for its bombings. The lyrics also suggest that the singer comes from a background of poverty and violence, with references to robbery and selling drugs. The singer also expresses loyalty to his community and his friends, willing to take revenge on their behalf. The reference to a "backseat with this Drac'" indicates that the singer is not averse to using violence when necessary.
Overall, the song is a meditation on the risks and rewards of taking chances in life, especially in matters of the heart. The singer is willing to take risks, but is also aware of the potential for loss and heartbreak. The lyrics suggest a complex and nuanced worldview, with an understanding of the harsh realities of life, combined with a willingness to take risks and push forward despite those difficulties.
