Just Another Day
Naked Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like I didn't know what I was talking about
We could never live
In the looks that we stole along the way
At the end of the day
I didn't think that you would stay
Take me in 'til I grow old
So you can talk to me whenever you're alone
When we keep our cards so close to our chests
Swallow your regrets,
And laugh it off until another one
If it meant
Another day
I'd throw it all away
Another Time
I broke my heart to give you yours
A church bell rings, another tolls
But I didn't pay my dues
No, I never really took to what I owed
So when the beggar come for you
You better borrow what you can to see you through
If it meant
Another day
I'd throw it all away
Another Time
I went out walking all alone
Set out to find my way back home
But I had lost my way
Yes, I'd left it on the wayside, out of mind
If it meant another day
Maybe I'd throw it all away another time
If it meant
Another day
I'd throw it all away
Another Time
The lyrics of "Just Another Day" by Naked touch upon themes of deception, introspection, and the consequences of our actions. The opening lines suggest that the singer has been misled or manipulated by someone who made them feel insignificant or ignorant. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for a relationship or a situation where one person's voice or opinions were disregarded.
The lyrics also delve into the idea of living a superficial life, focusing on appearances and material gains instead of genuine connections. The phrase "In the looks that we stole along the way" implies that the characters in the song have been pursuing external validation and fleeting moments of happiness rather than meaningful experiences.
The chorus speaks to the desire for companionship and the fear of being alone. It suggests that the singer would sacrifice everything for just another day of being with someone, even if it means throwing away their own needs and desires. There is an underlying sense of desperation and longing, as if the singer is willing to compromise their own happiness for the sake of this connection.
The second verse introduces the idea of consequences and paying dues. The line "A church bell rings, another tolls, but I didn't pay my dues" suggests that the singer has somehow avoided facing the consequences of their actions or taking responsibility for their mistakes. This could be seen as a form of escapism or denial, where they ignore the debts they owe and continue to live in a state of self-deception.
The lyrics also touch upon the theme of self-discovery and finding one's way back home. The lines "I went out walking all alone, set out to find my way back home, but I had lost my way" indicate that the singer embarked on a journey of self-reflection and seeking their true identity, but somewhere along the way, they got lost. This can be seen as a metaphor for losing oneself in the pursuit of external validation and materialistic desires.
Overall, "Just Another Day" by Naked explores themes of deception, introspection, the consequences of our actions, and the search for authenticity and belonging in a world dominated by superficiality.

You took me down, took me out
You brought me down, made me feel worthless
Like I didn't know what I was talking about
As if I had no knowledge or understanding
We could never live
Our relationship was doomed from the start
In the looks that we stole along the way
In the fleeting moments of attraction we shared
At the end of the day
Ultimately, when everything is considered
I didn't think that you would stay
I never believed you would remain by my side
Take me in 'til I grow old
Accept me until I become elderly
So you can talk to me whenever you're alone
So you have someone to converse with in solitude
Do our aces fall in jest
Are our winning cards merely a joke
When we keep our cards so close to our chests
When we guard our secrets and intentions closely
Swallow your regrets
Suppress your feelings of remorse
And laugh it off until another one
Pretend it doesn't matter until a new opportunity arises
If it meant another day
If sacrificing today would grant an additional day
I'd throw it all away
I would willingly give up everything
Another Time
On a different occasion
I broke my heart to give you yours
I endured pain to make you happy
A church bell rings, another tolls
One bell rings, but another bell follows
But I didn't pay my dues
I didn't fulfill my obligations
No, I never really took to what I owed
I never fully embraced my responsibilities
So when the beggar come for you
When you're in need and desperate
You better borrow what you can to see you through
You should seek assistance to survive
I went out walking all alone
I ventured outside by myself
Set out to find my way back home
Started a journey to return to my place of belonging
But I had lost my way
But I became directionless
Yes, I'd left it on the wayside, out of mind
I neglected it and forgot about it
Maybe I'd throw it all away another time
Perhaps I would sacrifice everything again at a different moment
