Not the only town like-a this town
This town is a make-you town
Or a break-you-town and bring-you-down town
This town is a quiet town
For a riot town like this town
This town is a love-you town
This town is an all-right town
For an uptight town like-a this town
This town, it's a use-you town
An abuse-you town until-you're-down town
This town is a losin' town
It's a miserable town
It's a nowhere town
And I am leavin' this town
You better believe that I'm leavin' this town
Man, it could never be uptown
It's bound to be downtown
This town, bye-bye
Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye-bye
In Nancy Sinatra's song "This Town," she describes a town that is both loving and abusive. The lyrics suggest that the town can make or break a person, and it is a lonely and quiet town that is prone to riots. Nancy sings about how the town is all-right for those who are uptight, but it is a losing and miserable town. Ultimately, she declares that she is leaving the town and that it could never be uptown, as it is bound to be downtown.
The song can be interpreted in many ways, but some believe it speaks to the struggles of trying to make it in Hollywood. The town is known for its glitz and glamour but also for its competitive and dark side, which can bring people down. The push and pull of love and abuse in the town are themes that many artists have explored in their work, and Nancy's interpretation captures this dichotomy.
