Summer Wine
Nancy Sinatra & Roland Kaiser Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
I walked in town on silver spurs that jingled to
A song that I had only sang to just a few
She saw my silver spurs and said lets pass some time
And I will give to you summer wine
Ohh-oh-oh summer wine
Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine
Ohhh-oh summer wine
My eyes grew heavy and my lips they could not speak
I tried to get up but I couldn't find my feet
She reassured me with an unfamiliar line
And then she gave to me more summer wine
Ohh-oh-oh summer wine
Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine
Mmm-mm summer wine
When I woke up the sun was shining in my eyes
My silver spurs were gone my head felt twice its size
She took my silver spurs a dollar and a dime
And left me cravin' for more summer wine
Ohh-oh-oh summer wine
Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time

And I will give to you summer wine
Mmm-mm summer wine

Overall Meaning

The song "Summer Wine" by Nancy Sinatra and Roland Kaiser tells the story of a man who meets a woman in town, and they spend their time sipping on summer wine. The lyrics begin by painting a vivid imagery of strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in spring, which are all ingredients used to create the summer wine. The singer recounts his walk in town, adorned with his silver spurs, while humming a tune that he only sang to a few. The woman he meets is taken by his silver spurs and invites him to spend some time with her while sipping on summer wine.

As the story progresses, the singer loses his senses after drinking too much wine, and the woman reassures him with kind words. When he wakes up the next morning, his silver spurs are gone, and he feels disoriented, leading to a desperate craving for more summer wine. The lyrics capture the themes of longing and addiction, often related to summer days and nights. Through the use of rich imagery and metaphorical language, "Summer Wine" creates a perfect depiction of the carefree days of summer and the fleeting nature of love.

Nancy's intro is beyond fantastic. Lee's voice is so cool. This song is way more tranquilizing than the summer wine itself. A song that I never get tired of listening to.
