You used to be my number one, two, three and four
We used to be the morning sun
We used to be the morning sun
Don′t shut the door
Postcards...
The lyrics of Postcards by Napoleon feat. Capital Cities are poetic and nostalgic. The opening lines of "You used to be my number one" paint a picture of an intense relationship that has turned sour. The repetition of "You used to be my number one, two, three and four" highlights the depth of emotion and investment in the relationship that has now faded. The next line "We used to be the morning sun" reinforces the theme of lost love, as if the couple were the very symbol of a new dawn.
The chorus of the song repeats the word "Postcards" several times, which serves as a reminder of how quickly things can change. Postcards are a symbol of memories and reminiscence, but they also symbolize distance and separation. The repetition of the word in the chorus suggests a sense of longing for a time that is gone, a desire to recapture what was lost. The final line of the chorus "Don't shut the door" is a plea to keep the past alive, to hold onto a connection that is slipping away.
Overall, the lyrics of Postcards by Napoleon feat. Capital Cities are poignant and evocative. They capture the heartache of lost love and the yearning for a time that has gone by. The repetition of key phrases, such as "You used to be my number one" and "Postcards," serves to emphasize the emotions of the singer and to create a sense of continuity and coherence.

I know this came out five or six years ago, but I discovered it last year and it became one of my favorite songs of 2016! I love the rest of the album as well (especially 1973, 1975). Thanks for the great music!

@ry6375 Cheers! The sample... I'll have to go and dig it out as I can't remember and I don't have the vinyl with me! The vocals are two guys from an LA band called Capital Cities who I've been working with!
