Corrosion
Nasum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Corrosion
Corrosion
Corrosion

Like water corroding metal
Your world is withering
All you had you have lost
Never to return again

Your life, will rust

Particles that used to be you
Falling down like dead skin
What once shone is now matt
It can never be saved

Rusting from the inside out
Dead and dry you fall apart
You're nothing but corrosive waste
So what's the point of trying?

Corrosion, no devotion

So tied up with no devotion
Your life is falling apart

You've lost your sense of color
Everything is in shades of red and brown

Overall Meaning

The song "Corrosion" by Nasum is a powerful commentary on the inevitable decay and destruction of our lives and the society we live in. The lyrics compare the corrosion of metal to the decay of human life, with the metaphor of rust being used to describe the gradual loss of what once shone brightly. The opening line of the song sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics, stating that "Like water corroding metal, your world is withering." This line suggests that the world is slowly decaying and losing its vitality, just like metal corrodes over time when exposed to water.

The lyrics go on to describe the process of decay in more detail, saying that "All you had you have lost, never to return again." This line suggests that the things we value and cherish in life are fleeting and can be easily lost, never to be regained. The use of the metaphor of "dead skin" to describe the particles that used to be the person lyrically suggests that our bodies are nothing but a collection of atoms that are slowly decaying over time.

The lyrics go on to describe the futility of trying to fight the corrosion, asking "What's the point of trying?" The song implies that we are all ultimately helpless in the face of the inevitable decay of our lives and the society we live in.

I don't know. Maybe it's just not my genre, but Grindcore has some pretty awful bands. More so than other genres in that a LOT of its bands are just so derivative. I guess that's why I like Nasum so much. It takes its genre and runs with it. It has emotion in the lyrics and the music as a whole. It's not just shock lyrics, it's not just playing fast because "Lol genre is fast so we play fast"

Just my thoughts anyway.

Schectler

That's a really interesting way to look at it I do noticed their is a lot more rawness in lyrics

RyanKaufman

Schectler Yeah, there's a passion there. A story is being told, albeit very aggressively. It's good stuff and I like it anyway.

maxeypad

Brings a smile to my face.

One of the best grindcore bands ever. I refer to their early incarnation, not the last line up which gigged some years ago. The only thing I do not like very much is that they changed their earlier growling vocals for a screamo ones, for me that was an error, but just my impression. Their first records with that kind of vocals were awesome!!!!!

RyanKaufman

+Marcos Marqués Novo Well the original singer died so... that might be why it changed haha.

Marcos Marqués Novo

+RyanKaufman i think that you are wrong. the one who died was not the original singer. the guy who sang in their first records was the drummer, but maybe he lost the interest on singing, or that mieszko (the one who dies and played guitar) increased his interest on singing, then they changed the roles. the screamo vocals were done by mieszko (these were the vocals in the last records), and the growling ones was by the drummer (in their early works).
and of course, nothing to do with the latest incarnation...

RyanKaufman

Marcos Marqués Novo I guess I'm confused then. While Mieszko is not a growler he's not screamo either. He's grindcore through and through. Maybe that's why I got a different idea.

Marcos Marqués Novo

+RyanKaufman yeah, sorry for using a wrong word. i always use the word screamo for that other kind of voices in grind. i did not want to point it as screamo hc or so, hope that i have explained it ok. Of course that NASUM is a great grind band, both musically and lyrically, their lyrics are AWESOME!!!!. I only wanted to say that i prefer (and that's my taste) the growling vocals on grindcore. cheers!!!!

RyanKaufman

Marcos Marqués Novo Fair enough. Yeah I can see what you mean now. I also didn't know the drummer sang before so learn something new haha.
