Please Come Home For Christmas
Natalie Bassingthwaighte Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bells will be ringing
The glad, glad news
Oh, what a Christmas
To have the blues
My baby's gone
I have no friends
To wish me greetings
Choirs will be singing
Silent Night
Christmas carols
By candlelight
Please come home for Christmas
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas
Then by New Years Night
Natalie Bassingthwaighte:
Bells will be ringing
The glad, glad news
Oh, what a Christmas
To have the blues
My baby's gone
I have no friends
To wish me greetings
Once again
Choirs will be singing
Silent Night
Christmas carols
By candlelight
Please come home for Christmas
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas
Then by New Years Night
Friends and relations
Send salutations
Sure as the stars shine up above
Shannon Noll:
For this is Christmas
Christmas, my dear
The time of year
To spend with the one you love
Natalie Bassingthwaighte:
So won't you tell me
You'll never more roam
Christmas and New Years
Will find you home
There'll be no more sorrow
No grief or pain
And I'll be happy
Happy once again
Shannon Noll:
There'll be no more sorrow
No grief or pain
And I'll be happy
Christmas once again
Natalie Bassingthwaighte:
There'll be no more sorrow
No grief or pain
And I'll be happy
Christmas once again
The song, Please Come Home For Christmas, originally written by Charles Brown in 1960s, is a popular Christmas tune that has been covered by various artists including Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Shannon Noll. The lyrics of the song acknowledge the joyful atmosphere of Christmas, but the singer's loneliness from loved ones and the absence of a significant other overshadows the happiness. The song is an appeal to the lost love to come home by Christmas, or at least by New Year's night.
The lyrics talk about how the singer has no one to celebrate the season with as their baby is gone and they have no friends around to wish them greetings. The tone is melancholic and the song captures the essence of the blues genre. The mention of the bells ringing and the choir singing Christmas carols creates a contrast to the singer's sad mood. The lyrics also mention how the singer wants their loved ones to come back home not only for Christmas but also by New Year's night. The song highlights the importance of being with someone special during the holiday season, and the happiness and joy it brings.
