When I Fall in Love
Natalie Cole feat. Nat King Cole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I fall in love it will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun

When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.

And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Natalie Cole’s song, “When I Fall in Love,” tells of the singer’s desire to find true love that can withstand the test of time. The opening lines express that when she falls in love, it will be forever, or she will not fall in love at all. In a time where relationships easily come and go, she wants to find a love that will last. She acknowledges that in a restless world like ours, love is often ended before it has even begun. She talks about how moonlight kisses, that seem so precious and thrilling in the moment, become forgotten in the light of day.

The second verse enforces her commitment to love wholeheartedly. She declares that when she gives her heart, it will be completely given, or she won’t give it at all. She waits for the moment when the person she loves will feel the same way too. The song implies that love can only be found when it is reciprocated. The last line stresses this point, as the moment she senses that they share the same feeling, is when she finally falls in love with that person.

This is an outstanding duet. Father and daughter singing together; even after his transition to heaven, Mr. Nat Cole left us his talent through Natalie. This music will live forever for anyone who hears it. Great Classical Love song are hard to come by these days.

Hi although your comment is now nine years old what you wrote back then still stands true today. Music has just gotten worse and worse and in some cases even perverse. But this duet and Unforgettable are both beautiful classy and romantic Imagine what Nat would think of today's world. Most of today's people wouldn't know romance if they tripped over it. Sorry for whinging.

@DoriH7

I'm with June Lynn, how I wish Nat hadn't been taken from us so early, he and Natalie sound so  good together! Possibly a match made in heaven!

I love Nat and Natalie, can still remember the first time I heard him sing, I fell in love right then.

This, and the "UNFORGETTABLE" duet before it, always bring a flood of tears to my eyes, because both are so beautifully done. It's so sad that both performers died way too young and at the peak of their popularity. I am forever envious of Natalie, because she had a very loving father, which I never did.

@NosiGlobal

So happy she is with her dad again.....his passing totally rocked her world.
