I was that kid in high school who sat at the lunch table by myself
I used to sit by myself at lunch in high school and struggled with social awkwardness.

Socially awkward from my jeans to my belt
My social awkwardness was all-encompassing; it affected everything from the clothes I wore to the way I carried myself.

To my Ralph Lauren polo, I wasn't on that yolo
I wore a Ralph Lauren polo but felt like I didn't fit in with the YOLO crowd.

I was like where do I go to my next class showin up late
I often struggled to find my next class and was frequently tardy.

Wasn't invited to parties I never got laid
I didn't get invited to parties and had a hard time romantically.

Wasn't on the football team with good grades
I wasn't a star athlete or straight-A student.

So whats harder? Starting from the bottom?
Is it harder to start at the bottom or in the middle?

I'm startin from the middle where nobody's watching
I'm starting my journey from a place where I don't have much attention or scrutiny.

Where nobody got problems, but everybody just kicking it
This is a place where people don't face significant problems and simply enjoy themselves.

Parents making the negatives got money, you rubbing in the money, you hustlin'
People with wealthy parents may complain about 'negatives' but still have access to money and opportunities to hustle for more.

But that's the world we living in, money is just a thing to make you spin
In our world, money can serve as a resource to fuel one's goals.

Never had a chance when, I'm from a city in the Midwest that's more caucasin than I am
It's hard to feel like you have a chance when you're from a place that doesn't reflect your racial identity.

But see we all love irony
People love irony and the twists and turns that come with it.

Takes the underdog from a long shot to finally making history, walk with me
The underdog can make history by succeeding against all odds. Will you come with me on that journey?

I had a lotta opportunity
I had many opportunities.

Opportunity to fail
While I had many opportunities, they also came with the chance of failure.

Best friends moved and wait
My best friends moved or waited for me to catch up.

And with the same mentality, coulda easily been added to local correctional facilities
If I had the same mentality as some of my peers, I could have easily ended up in correctional facilities.

Or worse, getting stuck in the American Dream
I could have been stuck in the cycle of chasing the American Dream with nothing to show for it.

And finish school with nothing but loans and a degree
I could have finished school with a degree and mounting debt, but no job prospects.

Degree of difficulty, highly, cause I'm walking a path thats not clearly defined in front of my feet
It's highly difficult to walk a path that isn't clearly defined and paved with obstacles.

It not make sense, As far as I can see
It doesn't make sense, at least not from my point of view.

The straight and narrow path up in front of me
There's a path straight ahead, but it's restrictive and narrow.

No turning back
I can't turn back now.

I won't turn around and leave this time
I won't give up and leave this time.

Cause I see the light
I see hope and potential.

And it's the only road I know
I only know this path towards my goals and dreams.

Life hits gotta baby on the way
Life can present sudden major changes, such as having a child.

Rent doesn't wait for two broken cars in my driveway
No matter what, the rent still needs to be paid regardless of unexpected expenses, such as car repairs.

Got me scratching my head for how to make some pay
I'm trying to figure out how to make more money to make ends meet.

So I gotta job that's above minimum wage
I had to take a job that pays more than minimum wage.

The only way I make music is to stay up late
I use my free time, often staying up late, to pursue my music.

Wake up early to hit the phones for payday
I have to wake up early to try and make money by working.

And I promise baby we gonna make it
I promise my loved one that we will succeed.

And one day we'll actually have a savings
One day we'll be able to save and build a comfortable savings account.

Turn my dreams up
I'm working hard to turn my dreams into reality.

Only way to escape it
I can only escape the stresses of life by fulfilling my dreams.

Life will trip you up with all these stressful situations
Life can be challenging and full of stressful situations.

Impatience the quickest way to get wasted
It's easy to become discouraged, impatient, and waste your time and energy stressing over these challenges.

So facing is, facing is
So, the best action to take is to face these challenges head-on and persevere.

Problem is the only ride I'm taking
The thing that propels me forward is the pursuit of solving problems and overcoming obstacles.

Taking lives in me I'm breaking through walls to see who stole the next generation
I'm taking action to break down the walls of societal barriers and to figure out who is holding back the next generation.

You take the low road, I'll take the high road
You can take the easier, less challenging path while I'll take the road less traveled.

And we'll see who's the first one to make it
We'll see who will succeed in the end.
