The band's first hit was a cover version of the old Kinks song "Lola (If You Ever...)" (1999), originally written by Ray Davies of the same band in 1970. The song became a hit especially in Denmark where it reached #10 on the Checklist as well as in Germany and Italy (#25 in Italy). The band has since released three albums. They are also known because one of their songs are featured on Cars: The Video Game as part of the game race soundtrack (Best Looking Guy In Town).
In 2018, Natural Born Hippies released the single "Mandela under the sun" as a tribute to South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela, who would have turned 100 just that year. The song was approved by Mandela's family and the Mandela Foundation in South Africa to be the official tribute song for Nelson Mandela.

The song "Lola" by Natural Born Hippies tells the story of a man who meets a woman named Lola in a club in old Soho. He describes her as having an alluring, almost hypnotic quality and seemingly falls for her despite not being the world's most passionate or physical person. The repeated line "Natural cherry cola" serves as an interesting metaphor for Lola's irresistible sweetness, as well as being a literal nod to the character's drink choice.
The song has a playful, upbeat quality that serves to reinforce the idea of Lola being a fun, captivating presence. The lyrical repetition also emphasizes how deeply the singer has fallen for Lola, as he continues to assert that she is the only one he could ever love. The fact that he falls to the floor in the second-to-last verse indicates that he is completely consumed by her, and that even if he wanted to resist, he couldn't.

First time I heard the song (end of the 90s), I was with a girl on a date, and her TV was on.
Suddenly this song started, with his insanely high vocals.
We just stopped what we were doing and just looked on the video on TV, dumbstruck, totally absorbed by the song.
"Jesus Christ, "both of us both of us exclaimed, almost in unison.
It was impossible for me to forget about the song, and several years after I managed to find it on the internet.
