The 4 piece took a do-it-yourself approach to the business and set out touring across the US and Canada. With the help from some friends and the support of their new fans they found themselves headlining and sharing stages with bands such as Sum41, Gob, The Vandals, Goldfinger, Story Of The Year, Yellowcard, Mest, The Distillers and Down By Law.
Their hard work paid off and the Austin based NearMiss was welcomed into Fearless Records based in Orange County, California. Their freshman album The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies debuted in July 2002 and has sold over 7,000 copies to date. The album was quickly championed by Austin's Modern Rock 101X, where the band remains a station favorite. The year also brought a change in line up when they lost Sean whom has yet to be replaced.
Throughout 2003 and 2004 the band continued to tour aggressively and made their first appearance on the Vans Warped Tour. Their hearting pounding performances earned the guys a spot on the 2004 warped compilation which pressed and distributed over 500,000 copies in the US and Canada.
Now a part of Takeover Records Family the band's potential is limitless and holds a promising future in 2005. Their first release is a 3 way split featuring The Matches (Epitaph) and Reeve Oliver (The Militia Group) in stores everywhere June 28th. Also except the bandís sophomore full length which is slated for release in this fall. NearMiss will be on the road the remainder of the year, so look for them on this summer's Warped Tour and other national tours including Story of the Year and Goldfinger.
Separated
Near Miss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
'Cause you killed her once before
And everything that you trust
Separated
Soon your world starts to fall
Then all your luck you lost it all
Through this time you went your way
Everything changes day by day
Live your life you jumped the train
I never wanted to see you fall
I always wanted to please you all
You can't love her it's the end
'Cause she'll kill you once again
And everything that you loved
Separated
Soon you'll realize it's the time
Find yourself when hearts collide
And maybe things weren't meant
A life alone is a life well spent
Free yourself from the pain
Live your life you jumped the train
I never wanted to see you fall
I always wanted to please you all
I never wanted to see you fall
I always wanted to please you all
Or see you die again
I never wanted this to be the end
The lyrics to Near Miss's song "Separated" seem to be about a relationship that has become toxic and unstable. The first verse talks about how the woman can no longer love the man because he had killed her emotionally once before. The chorus talks about how everything they loved and trusted has been separated and how the world has started falling apart. The second verse asserts that the man will be killed emotionally again by the woman. The song urges the man to find himself and overcome the pain in order to live a happy life, even if it turns out to be alone. The closing lines indicate that the singer never wanted to see the man fall or experience the destructive end of their relationship.
The theme of this song is common to many break-up or post-relationship songs where one is warned against repeating a cycle of behavior that has led to tension and harm. The song is full of melancholy and regret, as the singer is attempting to show compassion and empathy in order for the other party to start a new life. It is conveyed through the use of metaphors that suggest a separation between the two individuals and their connection has been permanently severed.
