From the 1960s to the 1980s, Diamond was one of the more successful pop music performers, scoring a number of hits. As critic William Ruhlmann writes, "as of 2001, he claimed worldwide record sales of 115 million copies, and as of 2002 he was ranked third, behind only Elton John and Barbra Streisand, on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artists in the history of the Billboard chart."[1] As of May 2005 he has sold 120 million records worldwide, including 48 million records in the U.S.[2]
Though his record sales declined somewhat after the 1980s, Diamond continues to tour successfully, and maintains a very loyal following. Diamond's songs have been recorded by a vast array of performers from many different musical genres.
Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, and then in 2000 was given its Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the early part of 2011.
In 2008 Neil Diamond scored his first ever Billboard number one album with "Home Before Dark", the album also became his first studio album to get to number one in the UK.

Let every soul (let every soul)
Let every one (let every one)
Come hear the sound
Joy to the world
The Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven
And heaven and nature sing
(Joy to the world
The Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ)
While fields and floods
Rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven
And heaven
And heaven and nature sing
Joy to the world
The Lord has come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven
(And heaven, and heaven)
And heaven
And heaven and nature sing
Joy unto the world
Let nature sing
The song Joy To The World by Neil Diamond is a classic Christmas carol that has been sung by many across the world for decades. The song's lyrics are an invocation to every heart and soul to come and hear the sound of joy. The main theme of the song revolves around the message that the Lord is come, and Earth should receive her King. The call is to every heart to prepare Him room, and for heaven and nature to sing. The song uplifts the listener's spirit and fills them with hope and happiness.
The second stanza of the song highlights that the Savior reigns, and men should sing songs to honor him. The fields, floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat the sounding joy, which signifies that every part of nature is reverberating with joy at the arrival of the Lord. The unique aspect of the song is its ability to transcend any specific religion and has become a universal song of joy and celebration. The song's message encourages people to come together and celebrate the arrival of a higher power, which can bring a sense of comfort and joy during the holiday season.
