From the 1960s to the 1980s, Diamond was one of the more successful pop music performers, scoring a number of hits. As critic William Ruhlmann writes, "as of 2001, he claimed worldwide record sales of 115 million copies, and as of 2002 he was ranked third, behind only Elton John and Barbra Streisand, on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artists in the history of the Billboard chart."[1] As of May 2005 he has sold 120 million records worldwide, including 48 million records in the U.S.[2]
Though his record sales declined somewhat after the 1980s, Diamond continues to tour successfully, and maintains a very loyal following. Diamond's songs have been recorded by a vast array of performers from many different musical genres.
Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, and then in 2000 was given its Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the early part of 2011.
In 2008 Neil Diamond scored his first ever Billboard number one album with "Home Before Dark", the album also became his first studio album to get to number one in the UK.

We'll feel the same things, we did before
Just close your eyes, and let me show you
You'll be my reason, and I'll be yours
Remember me
Well, I'm the boy they stood in line for
Have you got just a little time for me tonight
Hey do you remember me
Remember me
The world was ours for just one evening
Felt so warm, it's hard believing
That it would end
And here we are again
Hey do you remember me
Remember now
Music filled the empty spaces
And took us off to distant places
We'd never seen
Do you remember now
I still got my song and I can sing it
My guitar plays beneath my fingers
Warm, baby warm, baby warm
Say, do you remember me
Well, I'm the boy you gave your heart to
Don't you think we've been apart too long this time
But you've been on my mind
Say, do you remember me
The lyrics of Neil Diamond's "Remember Me" are a nostalgic call to a love that once was. The singer is asking his former lover if she remembers the time they spent together, when they were young and carefree, and the world was theirs for the taking. He paints a picture of a magical evening filled with music, warmth, and the feeling that anything was possible. The memories of that time are still vivid in his mind, and he wants to know if she feels the same way.
The song is full of longing and regret, but also a sense of hopefulness. The singer wants to reconnect with his former love and recapture the feelings they once had. He promises to make her feel alright, and to be her reason for happiness. The lyrics are simple but powerful, capturing the essence of young love and the bittersweet experience of looking back on it.
