Sedaka wrote his 1959 hit "Oh! Carol" about his then-girlfriend, Carol Klein, later to become Carole King. In 1963, King released a humorous answer entitled "Oh Neil".
The Laughter In the Rain Songfacts says Sedaka's hits dried up when The Beatles arrived, but then he teamed up with the lyricist Philip Cody and had a a number 1 hit with "Laughter In The Rain." It re-ignited Sedaka's career and he had 6 more Top-40 hits in America by 1977.
Sedaka's voice is in the tenor range.
SUNNY

'Til I met you Sunny.
You cleared my cloudy skies
Pretty little Sunny.
You made the rain disappear,
It's just like magic when I hold you near.
Oh Sunny, stay by me.
'Til the day I found you.
Now all I do is smile
Whenever I'm around you.
It's such a wonderful world,
Say that you'll always be my sunshine girl.
Sunny stay by me.
My life was sad and lonely,
I never saw the sun.
But the very moment that I held you tight
I walked out of the darkness and into the light.
I love no one but you
Sunny please believe me.
Don't ever say we're through,
Sunny never leave me.
Promise you won't go away,
Love me for ever as you do today.
Oh Sunny, stay by me.
In the song Sunny by Neil Sedaka, the singer is telling the story of how he was once sad and lonely, always surrounded by rain and cloudy skies. However, he says that all of that changed when he met Sunny. She is described as a pretty and magical girl who makes the rain disappear and brings happiness and sunshine into his life. The singer is grateful to have found Sunny, saying he never wore a smile until he met her, and now all he does is smile whenever he's around her. He believes that he has entered a wonderful world and promises never to let Sunny go. She is his sunshine girl who has brought him out of the darkness and into the light.
Overall, the theme of the song is one of hope and love. Sunny is the light in the singer's life, and her presence has drastically impacted his mood and outlook. Through the lyrics, Neil Sedaka highlights the transformative power of love, illustrating how it can take someone from a dark place and bring them into the light. The song's upbeat melody also mirrors this theme, as it's a cheerful and catchy tune that leaves the listener feeling hopeful and happy.

@Sam Williams Neil Sedaka was a MAJOR pop star from late 1958 until 1964 and had regional hits even after like `64. He then came back in the mid 70`s and had a bunch of hits then too.The "great" Beatles had NO affect on him whatsoever.

Oh, it did. He'll even admit it. But Sedaka was one of the lucky ones in that he got a comeback... and he was still getting songwriting royalties in his "hungry years."
