SUNNY
Neil Sedaka Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rain used to fill my eyes
'Til I met you Sunny.
You cleared my cloudy skies
Pretty little Sunny.
You made the rain disappear,
It's just like magic when I hold you near.
Oh Sunny, stay by me.
I never wore a smile
'Til the day I found you.
Now all I do is smile
Whenever I'm around you.
It's such a wonderful world,
Say that you'll always be my sunshine girl.
Sunny stay by me.

My life was sad and lonely,
I never saw the sun.
But the very moment that I held you tight
I walked out of the darkness and into the light.

I love no one but you
Sunny please believe me.
Don't ever say we're through,
Sunny never leave me.
Promise you won't go away,

Love me for ever as you do today.
Oh Sunny, stay by me.

@Sam Williams  Neil Sedaka was a MAJOR pop star from late 1958 until 1964 and had regional hits even after like `64. He then came back in the mid 70`s and had a bunch of hits then too.The "great" Beatles had NO affect on him whatsoever.

Oh, it did. He'll even admit it. But Sedaka was one of the lucky ones in that he got a comeback... and he was still getting songwriting royalties in his "hungry years."

On this day in 1964 {December 12th} Neil Sedaka performed "Sunny" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
Five months earlier on July 19th, 1964* "Sunny" entered the Top 100 chart at position #99, the following week it was at #87, and then on it's third and final week on the chart it peaked at #86...
Between 1959 and 1980 he had thirty records on the Top 100 chart, nine made the Top 10 with three reaching #1; "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" for 2 weeks in 1962, "Laughter in the Rain" for 1 week in 1975, and "Bad Blood" for 3 weeks in 1975...
Neil Sedaka will celebrate his 79th birthday come next March 13th {2018}...
* And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, exactly two years later on July 19th, 1966 Bobby Hebb's completely different version of "Sunny" was at #50 on the Top 100, five weeks later it would peak at #2 {for 2 weeks}, and for the 2 weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Summer In The City" by the Lovin' Spoonful...
