Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Too Lonely
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Too lonely to fall in love
Too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love.
I got a key chain
Good luck charm
I drive a fast car
Too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love
Too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love.
She's got the big lips
She's got the tight dress
Working for a big tip
She don't go for less.
She's too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love
Too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love.
She wears a fur coat
She's got a gold ring
Comes from a good home
Lookin' for a new thing.
She's too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love
Too lonely, too lonely
Too lonely to fall in love.
The song "Too Lonely" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse seems to be about two people who are too lonely to fall in love. The lyrics are simple, repetitive, and convey a feeling of emptiness and detachment. The singer talks about his own lack of connection to others and also observes a woman who seems similarly isolated. The key chain and fast car that he mentions suggest that he might use material possessions as a substitute for deeper human connections. The woman who he describes seems to be a sex worker, as she is wearing a tight dress and working for a big tip. She might similarly be using physical intimacy as a way to temporarily escape her loneliness.
The song's lyrics are open to interpretation and could be read as a commentary on modern society's obsession with consumerism and superficial connections. The singer and the woman he describes both seem to be searching for something more meaningful, but unable to find it. The repetition of the phrase "too lonely to fall in love" highlights the feeling of being stuck in a cycle of loneliness and unable to escape it.
