Their earliest albums were hard rock that drew heavily from the space-rock and Pink Floyd styles of the same period. The 70’s gave them the occasion to issue some masterpieces, like for example "A Tab in the Ocean (1972) "Remember the Future" (1973) and "Recycled" (1975). Each is a conceptual album that is a nice blend of melodic guitar and keyboards with a vocal story. "Journey To The Centre Of The Eye" is a mindblowing epic with lots of echoplex guitar and dual Mellotrons which is quite in tune with the Krautrock stuff going on around them, yet is definitely British. "Magic is a Child" had shorter songs and were less less satisfying.
Nektar's entire back catalogue has been re-vamped and remastered and is about to be re-issued in the USA, supported by a tour. A new Studio CD "Book of Days" is targeted for 20th March 2007 release on EMI - Caroline.
The band has recently been joined for their upcoming tour by the bass player Peter Pichl (Running Wild and other bands).
After The Fall

And tears roll away
The pain and the truth
Of the lessons we learned
Start to fade
The arrogant child
He thought he knew best
That laid us to rest
Now that it's gone
And we failed her test
Can she be reached
It's the mother of all
Who knew best
After the fall
These clouds drift away
We pick up remains of the life we have left
Start again
The song "After the Fall" by Nektar is a powerful and thought-provoking piece that deals with the aftermath of a catastrophic event - a fall or failure. The lyrics present the idea that after tears have been shed and the pain and truth of lessons learnt start to fade, there is a chance to rebuild and start again. The arrogant child referred to may be a symbol for humanity as a whole, or perhaps a particular person or group, who believed they knew best. This led to the ruin that eventually laid them to rest, or resulted in some form of downfall or failure.
The lyrics also pose a question - can the one who knew best, the mother of all, be reached? This could refer to a divine or cosmic force that knows better than humanity, or perhaps simply to the idea of nature or the universe being wiser than any individual. The song suggests that perhaps this force can help rebuild and start anew, but it is up to us to pick up the remains of the life we have left and begin again.
Overall, "After the Fall" is a song that acknowledges the pain and difficulties of facing a major setback or failure, but also encourages resilience and hope for the future.
