They had a No. 1 hit in the United States with "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" during the week of September 29, 1990. They are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family to reach number one record status in three successive generations (beginning with grandparents Ozzie and Harriet Nelson).
The band split with Geffen Records record label after 1995, but they have continued to produce and release albums independently under their label, Stone Canyon Records. However, they have yet to revisit the level of success they experienced during their 1990 debut. http://thenelsonbrothers.com

I Stop

That's when I'll stop loving you
The worst I've ever been hurt in my life
The first time I ever have wanted to die
Was the night when you told me you loved someone else
And asked me if I could forget
That's when I'll stop wanting you
I'd be like a flower, unwanted in spring
Alone, neglected, transplanted in vain
To a garden of sadness where its petals will fall
In the shadows of undying pain
When I stop dreaming
That's when I'll stop thinking of you
You may teach the flowers to bloom in the snow
You may take a pebble and teach it to grow
You might teach all the raindrops to return to the clouds
But you can't teach my heart to forget
When I stop dreaming
That's when I'll stop crying for you
The lyrics of Nelson's song "When I Stop Dreaming" convey the deep longing and emotional pain experienced by the singer after a heartbreak. The song explores the idea that as long as the singer continues to dream, love, want, think, and cry for their lost love, they are unable to truly move on.
In the first verse, the singer reflects on the intense hurt they felt when they were told that their loved one had fallen for someone else. This realization was so devastating that they believed death would be a preferable alternative. The lyrics capture the emotional turmoil and vulnerability experienced during such a heartbreak.
The second verse continues to depict the despair and hopelessness felt by the singer. They compare themselves to an unwanted flower in spring, abandoned and misplaced in a garden of sadness. This imagery symbolizes their feelings of being alone and unloved, with their pain becoming a constant companion.
The chorus repeats the phrase "When I stop dreaming, That's when I'll stop loving you," emphasizing that as long as the singer continues to hold onto these feelings, they will never be able to let go. The next verse reinforces this notion, suggesting that while it may be possible to teach certain things, like making flowers bloom in the snow or returning raindrops to the clouds, it is impossible to teach the heart to forget.
The final verse captures the heartbreaking realization that despite the pain and longing, the singer is unable to stop dreaming, wanting, thinking, and crying for their lost love. It highlights the depth of their emotions, acknowledging that even though they may eventually move on, the love they once had will always leave an indelible mark.
Overall, "When I Stop Dreaming" is a poignant and introspective portrayal of the aftermath of heartbreak, illustrating the difficulty of truly letting go and moving on from a love lost.
