Coming Back
Nelumbo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

coming back to me
coming back to see
if I, still beginning to be
a child, a child, a child

Growing back in me
chasing to see
if I, still beginning to be
a child, a child, a child

Sleeping high In me
Awaking to see
If i, Still beginning to be
a child, a child, a child

I will wait To see
I will créate a myth
If i, Still beginnning to be
a child, a child, a child

Choosing me, again
Choosing free, to see

If I, Still beginning to be
a child, a child, a child

Overall Meaning

The song "Coming Back" by Nelumbo is a nostalgic track that is centered around the idea of returning to one's childhood. The song speaks to the idea that as we go through life, we often lose touch with the childlike wonder and innocence that once defined us. The lyrics posit the question of whether or not this wonder can be recaptured as we get older.

The song opens with the lines "Coming back to me, coming back to see/ if I, still beginning to be/ a child, a child, a child." These lines establish the central theme of the song: that the singer is returning to a state of childlike wonder in order to reconnect with a part of themselves that they feel they have lost. The following lines speak to the idea of personal growth and change: "Growing back in me, chasing to see/ if I, still beginning to be/ a child, a child, a child." The singer is metaphorically growing a new part of themselves that they hope will lead them back to their childhood self.

The chorus of the song is a repetition of the lines "If I, still beginning to be/ a child, a child, a child." These lines serve as a reminder of the central idea of the song: that the singer is searching for a way to reconnect with their childhood self. The verses that follow build upon this idea, speaking to the idea of awakening and creating a new mythology for oneself in order to reconnect with the childlike wonder that once defined us.

Overall, "Coming Back" is a thoughtful meditation on the idea of returning to one's childhood in order to reconnect with a part of oneself that is often lost as we grow older.

This was fascinating. Thank you for your in-depth research on this confusing topic. Do you have pointers for beginners obtaining and growing Nelumbo/Nymphaea plants? From what I understand, right now is the season to start. I am thinking to install a small pond / water garden this spring (zone 6a), but I'm just getting started. I don't want to miss the window to enjoy these beautiful flowers!

I had been recently wondering this exact thing, not for any recreational properties but just because I'd love to have a blue lotus. Considering lotuses have been bred for thousands of years, i'd imagine we'd know by now if they could be blue!

Hi, i bought 80 seeds, just 3 or 5 germinate, i have a question , why the water smell bad? also some seeds germinate and grow faster than others, one did in 3 days under 45C sun, i am new to you channel, and are really intersted in grow as we have a 3 acre lake and i will add an aquatic plant garden to absorb nutrients that led to the green color algae.
