Five Hours to Elwood
Neutral Agreement Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With me tonight
Again i see your face
The light once more
You said i am always there
But you, you done that before i swear
So far from home, is where i go
So far from home, is where i go
Is where i go tonight
My life always on the rocks
You see i'm blind
Help me find the truth
Help me find myself
Find my life tonight
Cause you, you've done that before
Am i right?
So far from home, is where i go
Is where i go tonight
So far from home, is where i go
Is where i go tonight
The lyrics of Neutral Agreement’s song Five Hours to Elwood convey a sense of being lost and disconnected, both from oneself and from the familiar surroundings of home. The first verse talks about being lost in time, but being together with someone else who is also lost. This shared sense of confusion and aimlessness is heightened by the following lines, in which the singer sees a familiar face once more, perhaps suggesting that they have gone through this before.
The second verse starts off by emphasizing how far away from home the singer is. This sense of being far away, both physically and emotionally, is underscored by the repetition of the phrase “is where I go tonight”. Then, the lyrics shift to asking for help, for someone to guide the singer towards the truth and help them find themselves. The final question – “Am I right?” – suggests doubt and uncertainty, echoing the same sense of being lost and needing someone to help straighten things out.
Overall, the song expresses a yearning for connection and direction, for someone to help make sense of what seems like a confused and tumultuous existence.
