Come Back
New Buffalo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When dark as night
I saw the light
It shone with more
Desire than
I'd seen before
The leaves begin to fall
I smell the air
And hear a voice saying
Come back
Come back
I need you now
Come back
Come back
I need you now

It's time to lie
Down on the shore
Where you once cried
For more, for more
Come back
Come back
I need you now
Come back
Come back
I need you now

It's true
It's true
I've been avoiding you
When all you gave to me
Was so pure and so complete
The sounds that lull to sleep
The flickering of the lights
The water so deep
Come back
Come back
I need you now
Come back
Come back
I need you now

It's time to lie
Down on the shore
Where you once cried
For more, for more
Come back
Come back
I need you now
Come back

Come back
I need you now

Overall Meaning

In "Come Back" by New Buffalo, the singer is reflecting on a past love and the desire to have them back in their life. The opening lines suggest that even in darkness, there was a glimmer of hope or light that could be seen. The following line suggests that this light was related to the desire or longing for this past love. The leaves falling and the voice saying "Come back" adds to the melancholic tone of the song, and the repetition of the phrase emphasizes the need for this person to return.

The second verse mentions lying down on the shore where the singer once cried for more. This could be interpreted as a place of reflection and sadness over what was lost with the past love. The repetition of the chorus "I need you now" adds to the emotional intensity and urgency of the song. In the last verse, the singer acknowledges that they have been avoiding this person who had given them something pure and complete. They also mention the calming sounds and scenery that remind them of their past with this person.

Overall, "Come Back" is a poignant and melancholic reflection on a past love and the desire to have them back in their life. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and the repetition of the chorus emphasizes the urgency of the need to reunite with this person.

That is rough work on your own! I admire the tenacity and pride in a job well done. Plus, if not done right the first time, you will be chasing bison! Majestic, wonderful animals!!!

Thank you so much!

I found having Muscovy geese with chickens really good. They are bigger and predators are more leery. They are quiet, can only hiss, and lay the best eggs with big yolks. Fantastic breeders and raise big clutches. The males are called Dukes and the females called Drams. Good eating too but more like steak than duck meat.

Broken Arrow Bison

That is very fascinating! I will look that up! Thank you!
