Take your time with the devil's fish law
Take your time with the devil's fish law
Take your time
Fishie... and fishes' eyes will watch your...
Fishie... and fishes' eyes will watch your lies
And fishes' eyes will watch your...
Take your time, don't waste your time
Take your time, take your time
And fishes' eyes will watch your lies
And fishes' eyes will watch your lies
And fishes' eyes will watch your lies
And fishes' eyes will watch your...
Take your time, don't waste your time
Take your time, take your time
Fishie... and fishes' eyes will watch your lies
And fishes' eyes will watch your lies
Take your time with the devil's fish law
The lyrics of New Fast Automatic Daffodils's song "Fishes Eyes" are enigmatic and open to interpretation. At a first glance, the repetition of the phrase "Take your time with the devil's fish law" seems to be the main theme of the song. The suggested metaphorical meaning is that the devil's fish law stands for something dangerous and elusive, and that caution and time are necessary to avoid being caught in its trap. The other recurring phrase in the song is "Fishie... and fishes' eyes will watch your lies", which can be interpreted in different ways, but most likely implies that the fish are passive witnesses to human behavior, scrutinizing the lies and deceit they encounter.
The repetition of the lyrics suggests a mantra-like quality, as if the singer is reminding himself or someone else to be mindful and patient. The mood of the song is dark and mysterious, enhanced by the hypnotic beat and the slightly distorted guitar sound. The chorus, with its insistent repetition of "Take your time, don't waste your time," adds to the sense of urgency and danger, as if time is running out and the possibility of being ensnared by the devil's fish law is imminent.
