Killing Me
Newman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There ain't no pressure
There will be months apart
But I can feel it, it's kicking in
My paranoia, is back again
So you, you got to stop this
You got to stop this
Your broken kiss
It's time for me to tell you that:
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Can't you see
This ain't the way it's meant to be
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Your games baby, your games, alright
It's been six months since this began
On a bedroom floor in a la la land
Well times are changing, I met your dad
I tell my mother, you're the best I've had
So you, you got to stop this
You got to stop this
Cause I can taste your broken kiss
Your broken kiss
It's time for me to tell you that:
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Can't you see
This ain't the way it's meant to be
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Your games baby, your games, alright
They don't know you like me
They don't see what I see
Them guys don't want your heart, heart
They don't know you like me
They don't see what I see
They won't tell you apart
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Can't you see
This ain't the way it's meant to be
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Your games baby, all sing it
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Can't you see
This ain't the way it's meant to be
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Your games baby, your games, alright
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Can't you see
This ain't the way it's meant to be
Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me
Your games baby, your games, alright
The lyrics of "Killing Me" by Newman reflect the internal struggles and growing frustration of the singer in a tumultuous relationship. The song begins with the acknowledgment of a previous agreement to be apart for extended periods, indicating an understanding of the challenges that lie ahead. However, as time passes, the singer's sense of paranoia intensifies, signifying a growing unease and discomfort within the dynamic of the relationship.
The repetition of the plea for the partner to "stop this" and the reference to tasting a "broken kiss" suggest a sense of emotional turmoil and dissatisfaction. The mention of meeting each other's parents and the declaration that one partner is the best the singer has had hint at a deeper emotional investment in the relationship, despite the mounting frustrations.
The chorus serves as a powerful declaration of the destructive nature of the partner's actions, likening their behavior to a game that is "killing" the singer. The repetition of the phrase "Your games, are ki-ki-ki-ki-killing me" conveys a sense of desperation and helplessness in the face of the toxic dynamics at play. The juxtaposition of affectionate moments and moments of distress further highlight the conflicted emotions the singer is experiencing.
The final verses depict a sense of isolation and incomprehension as the singer reflects on the differences between themselves and others who may not understand the depth of their connection. The repetition of the chorus underscores the emotional toll that the partner's games are taking, emphasizing the need for change and resolution in order to salvage the relationship. Overall, "Killing Me" captures the complexities of love and frustration, painting a poignant portrait of a relationship teetering on the edge of collapse.

1:24 "I tell my mother, you're the best I've had!" ...then I looked up the lyrics and it's apparently "I tell my mother, yo that's not her!" I still can't tell what's what. I know the lyrics are supposed to be correct, but on two different instances, I've seen incorrect lyrics for what it /sounds/ like the singer is saying
