Newsboys are considered one of the most popular bands in the Christian music industry. They have had numerous hit singles on the Christian pop charts, including Shine (1994), Take Me To Your Leader (1996) and He Reigns (2003).
In 2000, they helped start and headlined the annual, travelling CCM festival Festival Con Dios with Audio Adrenaline and The O.C. Supertones. It was known for featuring popular Christian bands and its motorcross stunts.
Steve Taylor has produced many of their hit albums, and several of the songs he has worked on with the band (such as Breakfast, Take Me To Your Leader) feature Taylor's humor and quaint lyrics.
During the Step Up To The Microphone tour, the band featured the drums on a rotating platform that could tilt downward up to 90 degrees. In fact, there were two sets of drums and Peter Furler (the original drummer) and Duncan Phillips would wear seat belts, so they wouldn't fall out, and have a rotating drum-off. This feature is still used on their tours and has grown to be quite popular.
In 2003, Jody Davis left the band to care for his sick daughter, Bethany. His replacement, Bryan Olesen, left in 2006 to work on his own band, Casting Pearls. The band announced in January 2007 that Paul Colman would be replacing Bryan.
The Newsboys released their new album, Go, on October 31st, featuring songs such as their hit single I Am Free, along with new singles Wherever We Go, and Something Beautiful. In March 2007, a collection of remixes from the Go was released as Go Remixed.
On December 31st 2006, bass player Phil Joel departed from the band to devote more time to family and personal goals.
In January 2009, the band announced that guitarist Jody Davis would return, replacing Paul Colman. Colman continues to pursue his solo career.
In March, 2009, it was announced that Peter Furler will be leaving the band to pursue other interests and will be replaced by Michael Tait, former member of dc talk and founding member of Tait. However, it was also announced that Furler will remain with the Newsboys in a production/advisory role, and may occasionally return to the stage with them for special events and will still be on the albums.
Truth and Consequences
Newsboys Lyrics

Dumped on more than a birdhouse shingle
Tired of the same old crowd, she starts to
Mingle where she don't belong
All God's bachelors hanging in a bunch
Wolves in Wool-lite beat 'em to the punch
Score another knockout, barely bought her lunch
What went wrong?
Let's talk about real life
Truth and consequences
And coming to our senses
And lies we'd best unlearn
Let's talk about real love
Truth and propaganda
Are you really gonna stand for
A love that waits its turn?
I am the voice of the male agenda
Sensitive, strong or shy, I tend to
Act anyway that would possibly send you
Somewhere we can be alone
You're so sure I'm a would be Christian
Suckered by the "Untamed Heart" condition
Love that feminine intuition
Seen that movie, too
Let's talk about real life
Truth and consequences
And coming to our senses
And lies we'd best unlearn
Let's talk about real love
Truth and propaganda
Are you really gonna stand for
A love that waits its turn?
Ok, ok, ok you've got me figured out
I'm a sham, I never actually studied for the priesthood
I've had lots of destructive relationships
And I know I don't deserve someone like you anyway
It's Just, there's this strange purity about you
Almost a Radiance
Maybe it comes from your religious beliefs, I don't know
I guess what I'm trying to say is
You're unlike any woman I've ever met
Is it getting hot in here?
Can I help you with that jacket?
Oh, let's talk about real life
Truth and consequences
And coming to our senses
And lies we'd best unlearn
Let's talk about real love
Truth and propaganda
Are you really gonna stand for
A love that waits its turn?
Let's talk about real life
Let's talk about real love
Let's talk about real life
Let's talk about real love
Let's talk about real life
Let's talk about real love
Let's talk about real life
Let's talk about real love
Let's talk about real life
Truth and consequences
And coming to our senses
And lies we'd best unlearn
Let's talk about real love
Truth and propaganda
Are you really gonna stand for
A love that waits its turn?
Let's talk about real life
Truth and consequences
And coming to our senses
And lies we'd best unlearn
Let's talk about real love
Truth and propaganda
Are you really gonna stand for
A love that waits its turn?
No, no, I know you've got to go
Oh! No, it's nothing
I've just got this really bad pain in my neck
You don't suppose you could just massage it a little, could you?
The song "Truth and Consequences" by Newsboys talks about the pivotal moments in real life when one must choose between truth and consequences. The lyrics revolve around two people who come from different worlds: one who is a Christian and the other who isn't. The first person is a "Poster child for the Christian single" who has grown tired of the same old crowd and begins to mingle with others who are not Christian. The person is surrounded by God's bachelors who seem to have no interest in her, and she ends up with someone who appears to be genuine but is not. The other person is the voice of the male agenda who tries to impress the first person and win her over. He admits to being a sham and having destructive relationships, but he also sees something special in the first person, and it makes him want to change.
Throughout the song, the chorus reminds listeners that there are consequences to every decision we make, and that we should strive to make choices based on truth rather than propaganda. The song touches on the idea that we should not settle for love that waits its turn or be swayed by false promises. Instead, we should open ourselves up to real love based on honest communication and mutual respect.
