Stop the anger, stop the pain
Stop my life from feeling empty
Stop my heart from turning cold
I close my eyes, I see you with her
See you touch her, wish you weren't
I put myself, my trust in your hands
And who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Telling me, you changed your mind (That you cared)
Who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Talking to me about love
Did you think about love when you did what you did
Who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Telling me that you cared
Did the thought of me hurting ever cross your mind
Ever cross your mind (Ever cross your mind)
Storm is over, but the damage done
I'm just trying to carry on
Tried to forgive, but cannot forget
Cannot believe in you again
And who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Telling me you changed your mind (That you cared)
Who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Talking to me about love
Did you think about love when you did what you did
Who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Telling me that you cared
Did the thought of me hurting ever cross your mind
I still want you, all the time
I still need you, all the time
All the time (Ever cross your mind)
Who do you think you are (Who you think)
Telling me that you cared (That you cared)
Who do you think you are (Who do you think)
Talking to me about love
Has the thought of me hurting ever crossed your mind
The lyrics to Nianell's 'Who Do You Think You Are' express the pain and confusion of being betrayed by someone the singer trusted deeply. The song starts with a plea to 'stop the music, stop the laughter, stop the anger, stop the pain.' The singer's heart is turned cold and life feels empty. Closing her eyes, she imagines her partner with another woman and wonders how he can ask for a second chance. The chorus repeatedly asks the question: Who do you think you are? The singer can't quite believe that her partner is talking about love after what he did. She wonders if he ever thought about her being hurt. Despite still wanting and needing him, she cannot believe in him again.
The song captures the rollercoaster of emotions someone goes through after being betrayed by a loved one. The pain, confusion, anger, and disbelief are palpable in the lyrics. The question posed in the chorus, 'Who do you think you are?', is not just an accusation but also an expression of disbelief that someone who claimed to love her could hurt her so much. The song's mood is somber and reflective, with a slower beat and minimal accompaniment that allows the singer's voice and lyrics to shine.
