Holy
Nichole Nordeman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How many roads did I travel
Before I walked down one that led me to you?
And how many dreams did unravel
Before I believed in a hope that was true?
How long? how far?
What was meant to fulfill only emptied me still
And all you ever wanted
Only me
On my knees
Singing holy,holy
And somehow
All that matters now is
You are holy,holy

How many deaths did I die
Before I was awakened to new life again?
How many half truths did I bear witness to
Til the proof was disproved in the end?
How long? how far?
What was meant to illuminate only shadowed me still
And all you ever wanted

Only me
On my knees
Singing holy,holy
And somehow
All that matters now is
You are holy,holy

And all I have is gratitude to offer you

And somehow
All that matters now is
You are holy,holy

Only me
On my knees
Singing holy,holy
And somehow
All that matters now is
You are holy,holy

You are holy

Overall Meaning

In Nichole Nordeman's song "Holy," she explores the journey of a person who has been seeking something in their life that they can't seem to find until they find the truth. The first verse talks about the various paths that this person has walked in order to find their true purpose in life. They've been lost, searching for something that will fill the emptiness inside, and nothing seems to satisfy them. However, they finally find their way to God and realize that only He can truly fulfill them.

The second verse touches on the idea of rebirth or being born again. The person has faced many hardships and half-truths along the way, but they find a renewed sense of purpose in their relationship with God. They've died to their old selves and awaken to a new life. The lyrics emphasize the struggle that comes with finding truth and the difficulty of discerning between what is genuine and what is not.

In the chorus, the person realizes that all that matters to them now is God. They worship Him with their whole being, acknowledging His holiness and sovereignty. The bridge expresses the gratitude that the person has for God, recognizing that He is the only one who can fill the void they once felt.

Overall, "Holy" is a powerful and introspective song that reflects on the journey of finding truth and purpose in life through faith in God.

I remember hearing this song on my Christian station about 15 years ago and I absolutely FELL I LOVE WITH IT!! This is such a GREAT tune. Especially in these difficult times. It just brings back SOOOO many great memories. I usually listen to my station at bedtime so whenever I heard this song...it would help me get a BETTER night's sleep. We can DEFINITELY use music like this to inspire our souls and think happy thoughts.

The lyric “somehow all that matters now is you are holy” randomly popped back in my mind today. I couldn’t remember the name of the song but I typed out the lyrics I remembered and here I am. It’s been years since I listened to this. ❤

This song helps me see Jesus so clearly and how much He loves us how He has been with us every moment of our lives and how He so desperately wants us to have a relationship with Him. A close relationship with Jesus gives us the ability to love at times when it would seem impossible this then shines His light and in turn many souls are brought to Him. All the glory goes to our loving Lord and Savior!
