Heyward's second album, titled 'Postcards From Home', was released in 1986, spawning two further top U.K. 40 hits in "Love All Day" (#31) and "Warning Sign" (#25). Heyward's subsequent albums include 'I Love You Avenue' (1988), 'From Monday To Sunday' (1992), which landed Heyward an American radio hit with "Kite", and 'Tangled' (1995). Although his mainstream popularity has faded since the 80s, he continues to tour.
Caravan
Nick Heyward Lyrics

With all the windows down
All your pleasures flourish
As they hit the ground
One of your loves was a caring, sharing person
They had a lot of love to give
But you don't really want to share no more
About the young idea
Caravan, caravan
You could tow the nicest man
Caravan, caravan
In your green and pleasant land
Don't you know she still loves to play The Jam?
Entertaining Mister Sailing
For the seventh time
Summer isn't easy
When it's only ten by nine
Oh, but they don't seem
To really care about the young idea
Caravan, caravan
You could tow the nicest man
Caravan, caravan
In your green and pleasant land
Don't you know she still loves to play The Jam?
Caravan, caravan
You could tow the nicest man
In your new caravan
You just love to play The Jam
Caravan, caravan, caravan, caravan
Tow my caravan
The song "Caravan" by Nick Heyward paints the vivid picture of a jaunty road trip driving down to Camber Sands with all the windows down. The verse alludes to the carefree nature of being out in the open, with all your pleasures flourishing as they hit the ground. The chorus, with its repeated reference to caravans and The Jam, adds an interesting layer to the interpretation of the song. The caravan, besides being a mobile home, can also be used as a metaphor for the journey of life, with all its twists and turns. The reference to The Jam, on the other hand, seems to indicate the singer's nostalgia for simpler times and happier memories associated with the past.
One of the main themes that emerge from the lyrics is a sense of disillusionment with relationships. The line that states, "One of your loves was a caring, sharing person / They had a lot of love to give / But you don't really want to share no more" suggests an unwillingness to compromise and a desire for independence. The reference to the "young idea" in both verses might also indicate a generational gap, where the singer feels alienated from the newer, younger generation.
