Shadows
Nick Lutsko Lyrics

(The shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
(The shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
(The shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
(The shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
Every time I close my eyes
When I′m alone in bed at night
I find them there waiting for me on the other side
My eyes open up, I can't breathe, I′m paralyzed
And I'm certain they are with me in my room
I tried to scream, and I let out a sigh
I prayed to God and received His reply
A shadow consumed me, I knew that it was my time
He said, "It's been fun, kid, we′ll see you tomorrow night"
And I′m certain that the words he spoke were true
So I'll sleep when I′m dead now, because
They're coming to get me (Go back to bed)
They′re coming to get me (It's all in your head)
They′re coming to get me (The shadows are coming,
The shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
They're coming to get me (Go back to sleep)
They're coming to get me (It′s only a dream)
They′re coming to get me (The
Shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
Drinking black coffee and rubbing my eyes
Dreaming of sleep and pretending I'm fine
But Mother and Father weren′t even a little
Surprised (Go back to bed, this is all in your head)
"Of course you have nightmares,
The garbage you put into your mind isn't healthy
And your diet is worthless, too"
But I know they′ll be sorry in the end
They're coming to get me (Go back to bed)
They′re coming to get me (It's all in your head)
They're coming to get me (The shadows are coming,
The shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
They′re coming to get me (You shouldn′t complain)
They're coming to get me (They think you′re insane)
They're coming to get me (The
Shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
It′s hard to explain what goes on in my brain
Maybe they're right and I′m not thinking straight
A little of sleep could be all that I need
Or maybe the shadows are waiting to take me away in my dreams
I can't keep this up forever
I need some kind of release
Gotta keep myself together
Till the time comes
'Cause I know that this won′t stop until
They′re coming to get me
They're coming to get me
They′re coming to get me
They're coming to get me (Go back to sleep)
They′re coming to get me (It's only a dream)
They′re coming to get me (The
Shadows are coming, the shadows are coming)
They're coming to get me-e
They're coming to get me-e-e
They′re coming to get me
They′re coming to get me-e
They're coming to get me-e-e
They′re coming to get me
They're coming to get me-e
They′re coming to get me-e-e
They're coming to get me
They′re coming to get me-e
They're coming to get me-e-e
They're coming to get me
Oh, they′re coming to get me
They′re coming to get me
They're coming to get me
Maybe I′ll let them take me
They're coming to get me
They′re coming to get me
They're coming to get me
I think I′ll let them take me
They're coming to get me
They're coming to get me

They′re coming to get me
Maybe I′ll let them take me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Nick Lutsko's "Shadows" depict the fear and anxiety that the singer experiences when faced with the shadows that haunt him every time he closes his eyes. He is alone in bed at night and finds the shadows waiting for him on the other side. The shadows seem to have consumed him and he knows that they are with him in his room. He tries to scream, but he can only let out a sigh. The singer then receives a message from God that the shadows are going to get him.

The singer is unable to explain what is going on in his brain, and he wonders if he needs some sleep to make it better or if the shadows are waiting to take him away in his dreams.
