I Don't Want To Go Home
Nick Mulvey Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And she saw the very light in me
She told me I could be a maker
But I'll probably make her fall onto me
If you know me, this morning
Been sleeping by the road
You die in different and
I don't want to go home
I don't want to go home
But sine you got more going on
Nobody's ever gone alone
One time behind a stake up
Stacked up the great
You could see that I could be the maker
But I'll probably make her fall onto me
In the song, "I Don't Want To Go Home" by Nick Mulvey, the singer reflects on a moment of happiness that he experienced earlier during the day. He was in his element and someone saw the beauty in him. They encouraged and uplifted him, recognizing that he had the potential to do great things. However, the singer is conflicted because he knows that he has a tendency to bring people down with him. He fears that he will unintentionally cause harm to the person who believes in him, instead of lifting them up.
The second half of the lyrics reminisce about a time when the singer slept on the side of the road, left to die in desperation. He recognizes that he is different from others but does not want to go home because he is afraid of being alone. However, he acknowledges that being alone might be necessary for personal growth. He recognizes that sometimes one needs to be alone to find their direction, and he fears that his unfinished journey may cause others to suffer.
The song captures the struggle of wanting to make something of oneself and be happy while being unsure of one's ability to do so. It also highlights the fear of hurting those who care about us, despite our intentions. Ultimately, the song's mood is one of hopeful contemplation that suggests that despite the challenges, there is always a chance to reach our full potential if we keep trying.
