Release Me
Nick Skitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why am I with you now
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you
That it's not what you need
I tell you that I don't care
But I don't want to
Anything that you say
I hear myself agree
And I don't recognize
What I've turned into
I don't know why I want you so
'Cause I don't need the heart break
I don't know what addictive hold
You have on me I can't shake
No, I'm not in control
So let me go
Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you
I could sleep by myself
You would burn me alive
Find me somebody else
But I don't want to
Try to leave out the love
That goes against the grain
But I can rationalize it
If I have to
I don't know why I want you so
Oh, 'cause I don't need the heart break
I don't know what addictive hold
You have on me I can't shake
No, I'm not in control
So let me go
Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you
Release me
Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you
"Release Me" by Nick Skitz revolves around a toxic relationship that the singer is unable to leave despite knowing it's for the best. The lyrics suggest that the singer is aware that he needs to end his relationship with his lover because it's not what he needs, and he rationalizes that he can cope with it if he has to. However, he can't shake off the addictive hold that his lover has on him, which leads to an intense internal struggle.
Throughout the song, the singer is asking his lover to release him, release his body, and set him free. He can't convince himself that he's better off without his lover and can't understand why he wants him so much, knowing very well that it only causes him heartbreak. The singer goes back and forth between acknowledging that he should leave the relationship and being hypnotized by the allure of his lover.
The emotional depth of the lyrics is beautifully matched with the great beat of the song, making it a danceable tune that remains a favorite of many. It's a perfect piece for people who are going through emotionally trying times within their relationships and are looking for an outlet.
