Nico started a successful career as a model in Berlin and Paris, studied acting at Lee Strasberg's New York Actor Studio. She then became part of the Swinging London scene, and had a short relationship with The Rolling Stones' Brian Jones and she recorded her first record in London in 1965, the single I'm Not Saying/The Last Mile, produced by Jimmy Page, for Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham's label Immediate Records. Thanks to Jones she met Andy Warhol in New York City and became part of Warhol's Factory, and Warhol introduced her to the Rock band The Velvet Underground, with whom she recorded the album "The Velvet Underground & Nico", featuring the legendary banana cover designed by Andy Warhol. The album has been named by numerous publications as one of the top 100 albums of all time, and is often considered one of history's 10 most influential albums by critics.
Nico later recorded several solo albums, including the folksy Chelsea Girl in 1967, followed by original albums such as The Marble Index and Desertshore, which were much darker and avant garde in style. She released several more albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including The End..., but died in 1988 from a cerebral hemorrhage after falling from her bike in Ibiza, Spain. She is buried in Berlin, next to her mother.

All That Is My Own
Nico Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed
Every child will be able to weep
Every wise man spoke of him
And a guide to ways unsure
Your winding winds did sow
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed
He who knows may pass on
The word unknown
And meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore
Your winding winds did sow
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed
He who knows may pass on
The word unknown
And meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore
Your winding winds stood so
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed
He who knows may pass on the word I know
And meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore
Your winding winds did sow
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed
The lyrics of Nico's song "All That Is My Own" describe an emotional journey of self-discovery and reflection. The singer starts by acknowledging the powerful forces of nature, represented by the "winding winds" that have shaped and influenced her life. She then describes a place where "land and water meet," a metaphor for a point of transition or change, where she finds herself sitting on her bed and contemplating the impact of these forces on her being. Despite the pain and vulnerability she feels, she is resolved to embrace her experiences and challenges, expressing the belief that every person will go through similar struggles and grow from them.
The lyrics go on to suggest that knowledge and wisdom can be passed down through generations and that those who have experienced similar challenges can support each other. The phrase "meet me on the desertshore" implies a place of isolation or separation, but also a potential meeting point where people can share their experiences and find common ground. The song ends with a repetition of the opening lines, suggesting that the journey of self-discovery is ongoing and that one's experiences continue to shape and influence their identity.
Overall, the lyrics of "All That Is My Own" are poetic and introspective, describing a deeply personal experience that many people can relate to. They express a sense of determination and resilience in the face of life's challenges, as well as a belief in the power of community and shared experience.

Nico is/was a very humble person. She basically can live with nothing..like a nun.
If they want to pamper her with castles and royal gowns she wouldn't deny it, but in reality she wants to sing...and meet JIM MORRISON again....her soulbrother...
