2011 was a bumper year for young Nightbox. After meeting in secondary school in Ireland and moving to Canada in 2010, the five-piece came charging out of Toronto's Kensington Market in February with a fantastically received debut EP, produced by Sebastien Grainger (Death From Above 1979) and Al-P (MSTRKRFT). The upward trajectory of their reputation shows little sign of slowing.
Nightbox channel a wealth of influences into their sound: the din of Madchester; the throb-click pulse of Tresor-era Berlin; and the addictive songcraft of Hall & Oates and their soft-rock contemporaries. Each song is crafted with the same pick and mix approach, and the resultant tracks have muscle with nuance, as well as plenty of ear candy for the rhythmically inclined. Critical and commercial reaction to the band's eponymous debut was noteworthy on a world scale. The music video for single "Pyramid" earned rotation on Canadian music television stations, and the track was selected to appear on the prestigious French label Kitsune's Maison Compilation 11. It was chosen by NME as a Top-10 download, stating it “quickly takes on a fresh sound of its own”. UK’s Dazed & Confused magazine said “(Pyramid) takes a hedonistic approach with high energy results on a new breed of dance." The EP was re-released in September on Rallye Label in Japan, selling out 1,000 copies on its initial offering.
“All signs point to Nightbox as the most likely successors to Two Door Cinema’s Club’s worldwide ubiquity”, states prominent Irish blog Nialler9. This past summer, Nightbox toured the UK, including plays at the prestigious Reading & Leeds Festivals. They also earned a slot at Ireland’s Electric Picnic Festival where BBC exclaimed, “The glitchy synths and the guitars sound delightful... and by jove do they know how to write a hook”. Nightbox recently supported Death From Above 1979 at their homecoming Toronto show and toured across Canada supporting fellow Canadian artist Lights. They also remixed Lights’ single “Toes”, released as a bonus track on iTunes pre-orders of her sophomore album ‘Siberia’.
Check out Nightbox, because seeing, and hearing, is believing.

And this time you won't have to be there on your own.
'Cause with you, everywhere feels like it's a home.
Our hands of guiltiness,
Together all alone, together all alone.
Use me up, use me up.
Use me up, use me up.
Clear me up, clear me up.
I've been trapped in these hallucinating tones.
Let me slip into your illuminating bones.
Swimming to the surface, breathing in the air.
I swallowed my chances, never even there, never even there.
never even there, never even there.
Use me up, use me up.
Use me up, use me up.
Clear me up, clear me up.
Use me up Use me up.
Use me up.
The lyrics to Nightbox's song "Burning" talk about finding light and love in a person who makes you feel like you belong. The first few lines of the song mention the "light" that illuminates the singer's bones, which are a metaphor for the core of their being. This light is attributed to the person the singer is addressing, who they say won't have to be alone anymore because they are together. With this person, the singer feels at home anywhere, which is a powerful feeling to have.
The second half of the lyrics describe the singer's sense of disorientation and confusion prior to finding this light. They describe being "trapped" in "hallucinating tones" before finally finding solace in the person they are addressing. The last line of the song repeats the phrase "use me up," which suggests that the singer is willing to be consumed by their love for this person.
Overall, the lyrics to "Burning" explore themes of love, connection, and finding your place in the world. The song speaks to the power of love and how it can help us survive and thrive even in the toughest of times.

I so absolutely adore this song... Even after like 4 years of listening to it nearly every day. Something about the way it starts slightly... off beat and strange, and it starts building to that first chorus with some uncertain madness to it, but the second that chorus drops, EVERYTHING makes sense. ... it also seems to be reflected well in the dance.
