Fade
No Bros Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As time goes by, slowly life is fading
As my source runs dry, my mind is aching
Distant memory is all that's left, my youth has gone

So cold! I'm crying
I'm about to fall
No faith!
Feeling nothing now at all

So cold! I'm crying
I'm about to fall
No faith!
Finding no meaning to it all

Like a disarmed son of Venus
Like a heart without a soul
So much time - it lies between us
A piece of mind - my only goal

So cold! I'm crying
I'm about to fall
No faith!
Feeling nothing now at all

So cold! I'm crying
I'm about to fall
No faith!
Finding no meaning to it all

Emptiness inside, nothing to remember
Nothing worth to fight, nothing but dead ember
The only melody is my last breath, I'm all alone

So cold! I'm crying
I'm about to fall

No faith!
Feeling nothing now at all ...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Fade" by No Bros convey a sense of loneliness, despair, and emptiness that comes with the passage of time and the loss of youth. The singer reflects on how life is slowly fading away and how their source of inspiration is running dry, leading to a sense of mental pain and longing for the past. The memories of youth remain distant, highlighting the feeling of irretrievable loss and the inevitability of growing older.

The repeated phrases "So cold! I'm crying, I'm about to fall, No faith!" emphasize the emotional turmoil and vulnerability the singer is experiencing. They feel lost and disconnected, with a sense of numbness and lack of purpose pervading their existence. The lyrics suggest a struggle to find meaning and direction in life, with feelings of hopelessness and resignation creeping in.

The comparison of the singer to a "disarmed son of Venus" and a "heart without a soul" reinforces the themes of vulnerability and emotional emptiness. The distance that lies between them and something or someone, perhaps a lost love or a distant memory, is palpable. The longing for peace of mind is palpable, with the singer yearning for some respite from the overwhelming emotions and sense of isolation.

The closing lines bring forth a palpable sense of desolation and finality, with references to emptiness, a lack of meaningful memories, and a sense of being alone with only their last breath as a companion. The repetition of the chorus and the line "Feeling nothing now at all" underscores the singer's emotional numbness and the struggle to find purpose and solace in a world that seems devoid of meaning. Overall, the lyrics paint a poignant picture of a person grappling with the passage of time, loss, and the search for meaning in a world that feels increasingly empty and cold.

Garcia always had a lot of respect for other guitar players on stage. This is such a mutually respectful jam. "sigh!"

Synergistic alchemy......Both this day, and the one before, are amazing. The two bands create such leveled brilliance between them, it's just historic. Completely out of this world!!!!

I was about 15 feet from the stage when they played this.  This was after midnight on Sunday, June 10, 1973.  The show had started with Wet Willie from about 12:30 to 2:30, the Allman Bros from 3-6:30 and the Dead from 7-12:30.  Then Dickie came out and jammed with the Dead for another hour or so.  Definitely a great day in my rock'n'roll history.

Wow! I was there!  In fact,,  I was so very lucky to have had 2 friends of mine with me, and they hoisted me up on their shoulders and I managed to sit right at the front side of Gregg's Hammond B-3 organ!!!   And, well,  I was bothered by the stage bouncers at all, because I behaved myself.  Or, I should say, behaved myself by staying put!  But,,,,  I took a look at Gregg playing, and I noticed right near me, just half an arms length away, on the top edge of the organ, just above my head,, was a can of Budweiser, 2 white face cloths, a pack of Marlboro smokes,,,,, and,,,, a HASHPIPE!   And if you're wondering if I grabbed them all as souvenirs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,   YEP,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,  I WAS A BADDDDDDD   BOYYYYYY!!!    If you were near the left front of the stage, and somehow you remember this guy climbing up, and sitting at the Hammond organ.........................................................    it was me............  at 19  .......................... now.................   63!!!  What a show!!!   And in fact, it was at that show,,  that Dickey Betts announced the soon to be released "BROTHERS & SISTERS" album,,, and,,,,   the song JESSICA was first heard!!!   FACT!!!    It was on that tour that Jessica was performed!!!
