Somewhere
No Motiv Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There is a place with no ideals
And somewhere inside there is a man that knows
That there is hope for a crying world
How we people treat ourselves
And how we make our lives like a living hell
Because somewhere inside there is a place that feels
And somewhere inside there is
There is someone inside
There is someone inside
There is someone inside that's
Afraid of you
Some are on talk shows
All day long
With not a clue what's
Going on
Go on thinking a certain way
Ignorance is here to stay
Will they feel a change
Of pace?
Will they see it a different way?
Well I sure hope there is
Change real soon
Or any evolution take its
Toll on you
No Motiv's song "Somewhere" is a poignant reflection on the emotional depths of humanity. In the opening verse, the lyrics describe a place that exists within each person where feelings reside without the burden of societal expectations or beliefs. The mention of a "crying world" highlights the sadness prevalent in society as a result of how people treat one another. The next two verses delve into the negative impact humankind has on itself- how people create their own suffering, and how they make their lives a "living hell." The chorus emphasizes that somewhere inside each person, there is fear- fear of others or fear of change.
The second half of the song shifts tones, addressing those who remain ignorant about the world's issues. The lyrics criticize people who appear on talk shows without an understanding of the problems they discuss. The line, "Will they feel a change of pace?" implies that many individuals fail to realize the significance of altering their ways of thinking. The final line - "Or any evolution take its toll on you" - brings home the song's message that "evolution" and progress may happen regardless of one's choice to be aware or not, and it could have detrimental effects.
This song is a call for change and self-reflection to prevent the continuation of ignorance and fear that drives people's actions.
