Give It A Rest
Nobodys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I hate my job, I hate my life.
If I was married I'd hate my wife. Oh Yeah.
If I had kids I'd hate them too.
But not as much as I hate you. Oh no.

I'm sick of people telling me what they think is best.
Just cause my life is a fucking mess.
I'm sick of people telling me what they think is best.
I wish they'd shut their fucking mouth and give it a rest.

I've heard it once, I've heard it twice.
Don't wanna hear no more advice from you.
Same shit, different day.
I don't care what you say no more.

I'm sick of people telling me what they think is best.
Just cause my life is a fucking mess.

I'm sick of people telling me what they think is best.
I wish they'd shut their fucking mouth and give it a rest.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Nobody's song Give It A Rest express feelings of frustration and bitterness towards life, work, and other people's unsolicited advice. The singer expresses the deep hatred they feel towards their job, life, and even hypothetical family members. They could possibly be going through a difficult time in their life, feeling stuck and hopeless, and in turn resenting those around them.

The repeated line "I'm sick of people telling me what they think is best" highlights the disconnect between the singer's own experience and the opinions of others. They feel that everyone else's advice is useless and further adds to the frustration they feel about their situation. The line "I wish they'd shut their fucking mouth and give it a rest" seems to be a plea for others to stop trying to tell them what to do and let them figure things out on their own.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of anger and resentment towards life and those around them. The use of profanity and harsh language emphasizes the depth of these feelings and creates a sense of rebelliousness against the expectations of society.

Genesis 37:3
"Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his other sons because he was the son of his old age, and he had a special robe made for him."

Our family, our parents, they often show favoritism and more love to others. In parenting, such things happen.

The Bible has recorded scenarios like this. First, with Esau and Jacob. Rebecca in favored Jacob while Isaac's favorite was Esau. Secondly, Jacob's love for Joseph.

Genesis 25:28
"And Isaac loved Eʹsau because it meant game in his mouth, whereas Re·bekʹah loved Jacob."

Unequal love can lead to greed, envy or hatred. Sometimes, especially with parents and children relation, the less loved son/daughter might get jealous over the other who is showered with more love and attention.

This happened before with Joseph and his brothers. He was hated. His dream was probably another reason, but jealousy is also another aspect to the considered.

Certainly, we can't control our parents love for us. But we can control our love for them, and for others.

By any means, if we can't avoid being inferior to others in terms of love, then we must just accept it. Don't be jealous just because he/she is getting so much greater than what you've got.

If you'll focus on what is given to them, envy and greed might attack. We need to learn how to cherish, accept and be thankful with what we got.

Even if it's lesser than what others have, it's still a blessing. Love, either small or given in a big portion, it's still love!

If your parents show what Jacob did, just simply smile and be happy. You're not lesser than your siblings or your family members.

Know how to accept that favoritism is nearly inevitable. It can be avoided, but it needs hard work.

Focus and be thankful with the love that is given to you. Don't focus on what you don't have or what you don't feel.

Matthew 6:23
"But if your eye is envious, your whole body will be dark. If the light that is in you is really darkness, how great that darkness is!"

Don't let yourself be envious. Greater or lesser, that doesn't define you. If you feel unloved or if the love that you are feeling is not enough, then seek for God's loyal love.

There, we won't be inferior and no one will be superior. We are all equal. No favoritism, this makes me smile.

Psalms 36:10
"Continue showing your loyal love to those who know you,
And your righteousness, to the upright in heart."

Let's learn to accept and not be mad nor envious. Humans are imperfect and they can't make perfect decisions or distributions.

Don't be jealous.
1 Corinthians 13:4
"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. It does not brag, does not get puffed up."

Romans 5:2-5 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Romans 8:24-25 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
